Its story is not simply that it “merged with Impact”: Anthem announced an agreement to combine the businesses in 2017, but a later federal court opinion says the contemplated merger was never completed. Here are ten facts that clarify what GFW was, what happened to it, and what became of its Amped footage.
1. GFW began as a new promotion in 2014
Jeff and Karen Jarrett founded Global Force Wrestling in Nashville. The SmackDown Hotel dates the founding to April 7, 2014, though that is a database-reported date rather than a date established by a cited company filing. The SmackDown Hotel’s GFW profile tracks its founding, titles, and status.
2. Its international ambitions included AAA and NJPW
GFW announced relationships with promotions including Mexico’s AAA and Japan’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). It also presented NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 9 to the North American pay-per-view market. These moves illustrate the promotion’s international ambitions; announcements and a one-off presentation do not establish that every relationship became a lasting or commercially successful partnership. A historical overview of Global Force Wrestling recounts those plans and event details.
3. Live events started in 2015
GFW began holding live events in 2015. The first house show cited in the historical overview took place on June 12 at The Ballpark at Jackson in Tennessee. That early date shows the promotion was staging events before its planned television series had a clear public distribution path.

4. Amped was taped in Las Vegas
GFW taped Amped in Las Vegas. A federal court opinion filed June 24, 2019 describes the sole masters provided to Anthem as sixteen one-hour episodes. The opinion’s account concerns the parties’ allegations and procedural history, so it is best read as a record of the footage involved in the dispute—not as a current program catalog. The 2019 federal court opinion discusses the masters and their later handling.
5. GFW had four named championship divisions
The promotion’s titles included the Global Championship, NEX*GEN Championship, Women’s Championship, and Tag Team Championship. Those names reflect the breadth of the divisions GFW presented, even though the promotion did not continue long enough to build a lasting championship history comparable to established wrestling companies. The SmackDown Hotel’s GFW profile lists the championships.

6. Anthem announced a proposed combination in June 2017
On June 28, 2017, Anthem said it had entered an agreement to acquire Global Force Entertainment, LLC, which did business as GFW, and combine the businesses. Karen Jarrett described the plan as joining forces with Anthem “as a partner to build the business”; Anthem executive Ed Nordholm said the company was excited by progress with IMPACT Wrestling after acquiring that business in January. These were statements about the announced arrangement, not confirmation that the GFW transaction closed. PWTorch reproduced the June 28 announcement.
7. The contemplated merger was never completed
The later court opinion says Anthem and Global Force Entertainment signed a term sheet in May 2017 relating to a merger and Jeff Jarrett’s employment, but that the merger was never completed. Jarrett’s employment ended in October 2017, according to the opinion. So “GFW merged with Impact” is misleading if it implies a completed merger or a confirmed transfer of GFW ownership. The announcement and the later legal account describe different stages of a proposed transaction.

8. Impact briefly used the GFW name
GFW as an independent promotion and Impact Wrestling’s brief use of the GFW name are related, but they are not the same thing. Impact used the GFW branding during the 2017 period surrounding the proposed business combination; that branding should not be treated as proof that the merger was completed. The court opinion’s account of the uncompleted transaction is the key distinction when describing what happened to the companies.

The court opinion recounts that the Amped anthology was distributed and that DVDs were sold at the time. It also says the sole masters provided to Anthem were later destroyed. Those statements document historical handling of the episodes, not whether a complete edition is available now, who currently controls any surviving copies, or whether a seller’s product is authorized.

10. GFW’s end date depends on the database
Wrestling databases do not give one uniform end date. The SmackDown Hotel marks GFW as ceasing operations on October 21, 2018, while Cagematch labels its active period 2014–2017. These are database classifications rather than a single definitive shutdown notice; the difference may reflect how each database treats later or private events. Cagematch’s GFW profile gives its 2014–2017 active-period label.
Where can you watch GFW Amped?
The historical record establishes that DVDs were sold, but it does not establish present availability or a verified streaming service. To look for physical copies, search for “GFW Amped DVD” or “Global Force Wrestling Amped anthology.” Before buying, check which episodes and format are included, the seller’s authorization, the disc’s condition, and whether the listing is currently available. A historical sale is not evidence that a particular edition is in stock today.
