Her career later included a fan-voted Slammy, a 2017 return alongside Mike Kanellis, and a 2019 24/7 Championship win that WWE highlighted as an unusual milestone.
1. She joined WWE after the 2004 Diva Search
Kanellis applied after seeing WWE announce the Diva Search. She did not win the competition, but WWE hired her as a backstage interviewer on Raw. WWE’s profile describes her as an interviewer willing to ask questions ranging from hard-hitting to deliberately obvious.
2. Interviewing came before wrestling
Kanellis did not arrive in WWE as an established wrestler. WWE’s retrospective describes her gradual move toward in-ring competition: she began tentative training and learned the ropes while balancing work at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) with travel alongside WWE’s main roster. The change was a progression from her original interviewer role, not her starting position.
3. Fans voted her Diva of the Year in 2009
WWE says fans chose Kanellis as Diva of the Year at the 2009 Slammy Awards. Her acceptance was interrupted when Batista cut her off. The award marked a moment of fan recognition during her first WWE run.

4. WWE’s sources give different years for the end of her first run
WWE’s circa-2014 retrospective says Kanellis’ first run ended in 2010, while the current profile says she departed in 2011. The two pages do not reconcile the difference, so neither year should be treated as definitive without qualification.
5. She returned at Money in the Bank 2017 with Mike Kanellis
Kanellis returned to WWE on June 18, 2017, at Money in the Bank, alongside her husband Mike. WWE’s return announcement and event page presented them as a couple built around a “power of love” persona. The return made Mike part of the act from the outset.

6. She won the 24/7 Championship by pinning her husband
On the July 29, 2019 episode of Raw, Mike had the 24/7 Championship when Maria made him lie down and pinned him for the title. WWE’s Raw recap records the win. It turned a title designed for sudden changes into a deliberately domestic power play between the Kanellises.
7. WWE billed her as the first pregnant 24/7 Champion
WWE described Kanellis as the first pregnant 24/7 Champion in its coverage of the July 29 win. That is WWE’s framing of the title storyline; the claim is not an independently established record across every wrestling promotion or championship.

8. WWE said the Kanellises made a married-couple first
In a July 30, 2019 article, WWE said Mike and Maria were the first married WWE Superstars to win the same championship while still married. The wording matters: this was WWE’s claim about its own championship history, not a broader claim about all professional wrestling. Read WWE’s account in “Mike and Maria Kanellis make history on Raw this week”.
9. Her reign lasted six days by WWE’s displayed dates
WWE’s 24/7 Championship history lists Kanellis’ reign as July 29 through August 5, 2019—a span of six days by those displayed dates. The page also explains the title’s format: introduced by Mick Foley on Raw on May 20, 2019, it could be defended at any time and place when a WWE referee was present. That rule is what made the title’s sudden, opportunistic changes possible.

10. Her WWE story spans distinct roles and eras
Kanellis’ WWE story moved from Diva Search contestant to interviewer, then to in-ring performer and Slammy winner; after her 2017 return with Mike, the 24/7 title became the defining moment of the documented 2019 chapter. WWE’s profile and retrospective differ on the year her first run ended, but agree on the broad arc from her 2004 arrival to her later title win.
