These Los Angeles hotels are associated with celebrities through historic guests, well-known social spaces, or Hollywood film and awards history. That is not the same as a measured chance of seeing a star: no source cited here publishes sighting rates, and a visit may produce no celebrity encounter. Think of this as a guide to the city’s most storied hotel settings, not a promise of access or sightings.
The available evidence supports nine hotels, not ten. Rather than add a prestigious property without comparable support, this guide explains why each of the nine belongs—and what its connection does and does not mean for a visitor.
How to read the celebrity connections
The hotels below qualify for different reasons. Some have public-facing restaurants or bars with celebrity-gathering reputations; others are known for former residents and historic guests. A third group is especially significant for film, television, or awards history. Those categories establish cultural associations, not the odds of encountering a celebrity today.
Hotel venues may be open to non-guests, restricted, or subject to changing policies. Confirm current access and reservation requirements with the hotel before making plans. Respect private areas and guests’ privacy; for example, Sunset Tower Hotel says photography is not allowed inside.

Los Angeles hotels with the strongest documented celebrity associations
1. The Beverly Hills Hotel — Beverly Hills
Opened on May 12, 1912, before Beverly Hills was incorporated as a city, the hotel has long cultivated its “Pink Palace” identity. Dorchester Collection presents it as a Hollywood hideaway, while Visit California describes its Polo Lounge as a well-documented celebrity haunt. Discover Los Angeles also notes that generations of celebrities have stayed at the hotel. The Polo Lounge makes this one of the clearest choices for the combination of historic reputation and a public-facing dining space, though access is not a guarantee of a sighting.

2. Chateau Marmont — West Hollywood
Chateau Marmont is one of the first properties named in Visit California’s “Hotels of the Stars” section. Its place in Los Angeles celebrity lore makes it a natural part of this list, but the source does not quantify current sightings or establish that visitors can access private hotel spaces. Treat the association as cultural reputation, not a reason to wait outside for guests.

3. Sunset Tower Hotel — West Hollywood
Designed in 1929, Sunset Tower became home to a roster of notable residents. Its official history names Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Billie Burke, Marilyn Monroe, Errol Flynn, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, and Paulette Goddard among them. That is a substantial historic connection, but it says nothing about who might be staying now. The hotel also says its doorway is among Los Angeles’s most photographed and that photography is not allowed inside, a reminder that its public reputation does not make its interiors a sightseeing opportunity.

4. Hotel Bel-Air — Bel-Air
Hotel Bel-Air opened on August 24, 1946. Its official description emphasizes an estate setting and lists 103 guest rooms following a renovation. Those facts support its image as a discreet, historic Hollywood-era hotel; the official material cited here does not name celebrity sightings or establish a current star-spotting reputation. It belongs on a history-focused itinerary more than a plan built around meeting someone famous.
5. Sunset Marquis — West Hollywood
Visit California points to the Sunset Marquis’s basement-level recording studio and associates it with musicians including Madonna and Elton John. This gives the hotel a distinct music-industry connection. It is not evidence that musicians regularly appear in public hotel areas, so regard the studio’s history as the attraction rather than an expected encounter.

6. Hollywood Roosevelt — Hollywood Boulevard
The Hollywood Roosevelt opened in 1927 and hosted the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929, according to Discover Los Angeles. The same source names Marilyn Monroe among its notable guests. Visit California describes the hotel’s Teddy’s as a favorite of the VIP set and mentions the lobby as a place visitors can spend time, while warning that Teddy’s access may be restricted. Check current venue rules before visiting; the hotel’s awards and guest history is more dependable than any assumption about who will be there now.

7. Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills, A Four Seasons Hotel — Beverly Hills
The Beverly Wilshire opened in 1928 and completed a major renovation in 2022, according to Four Seasons. Discover Los Angeles connects it to Elvis Presley, who stayed there, and to Pretty Woman, which used the hotel as a setting. These details make it a strong choice for visitors interested in the overlap between hotel history and screen history; they are not evidence of a higher present-day chance of seeing a celebrity.

8. The Beverly Hilton — Beverly Hills
Opened in 1955, the Beverly Hilton has hosted the Golden Globes for more than 60 years and has been part of Los Angeles’s social and creative life, according to Hilton. Its official history page also says the hotel is undergoing a major transformation as part of One Beverly Hills. Because that work may affect operations, check the hotel’s current visitor information before planning a visit.

9. Millennium Biltmore Hotel — Downtown Los Angeles
The Biltmore’s strongest claim is its place in entertainment history: Discover Los Angeles credits it with hosting eight Academy Awards ceremonies and appearing in more than 300 productions. Those figures make it an especially notable stop for film and awards-history fans, but screen appearances and past ceremonies do not demonstrate a current celebrity-gathering scene.

The cited material establishes nine named properties with relevant celebrity, social, or screen-history connections. It does not provide a defensible tenth hotel on the same basis. Adding a luxury hotel simply to meet the title’s number would blur the difference between prestige and documented celebrity association, so no unsupported property is included.
Choose by the kind of Hollywood history you want
- For a public-facing celebrity dining reputation: The Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge is the clearest example in the cited sources.
- For historic celebrity residents: Sunset Tower Hotel’s official history gives a named roster; the Beverly Hills Hotel and Hollywood Roosevelt are also linked to generations of notable guests.
- For music-industry lore: Sunset Marquis stands out for its recording studio and the musicians associated with it.
- For film and awards history: The Beverly Wilshire, Hollywood Roosevelt, and Millennium Biltmore have well-documented screen or ceremony connections.
- For a more discreet, historic setting: Hotel Bel-Air’s estate character is established by its official description, though that source does not support a claim of likely celebrity sightings.
What to do if celebrity history—not a sighting—is the goal
Visit California also names celebrity sightseeing tour operators. Such outings can provide Hollywood and celebrity-history context, but should not be treated as a reliable way to see a star. If you visit a hotel, use its publicly available spaces only where permitted, check policies directly, and leave guests’ privacy undisturbed.
