The Beatles hold the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits, with 20. Mariah Carey follows with 19. In Billboard’s report tied to the chart dated May 30, 2026, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Drake were next, tied at 14 each. Because that tie extends the list, a “top 10” by ranking positions includes more than 10 artists.
Which artists have the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100?
The table reflects Billboard’s May 30, 2026 chart-date reporting. It shows the top 10 ranking positions, not exactly 10 artists: three acts share the position after Carey.
| Ranking position | Artist | Hot 100 No. 1 hits |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Beatles | 20 |
| 2 | Mariah Carey | 19 |
| 3 (tie) | Rihanna | 14 |
| 3 (tie) | Taylor Swift | 14 |
| 3 (tie) | Drake | 14 |
These are the artists in the latest sourced leading group; the available reporting does not establish a complete current top-10 table. Billboard’s May 30, 2026 chart-date reporting places the five acts above at the top of its account, but does not supply enough verified current counts here to fill out the remaining positions.
What counts as a Hot 100 No. 1?
The Billboard Hot 100 began on August 4, 1958. A No. 1 hit in these totals is a song credited to an act that reached the chart’s summit. Billboard describes the chart as combining U.S. streaming, radio airplay and sales; its October 2023 explanation specified official audio and video streams, radio airplay, and purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers, while excluding digital single sales from direct-to-consumer sites. Those detailed rules describe Billboard’s 2023 account, not a verification of every current chart rule.

- Sebastian C. Adams was a 19th-century educator and minister who spent years drawing this chart by hand before publishing it in 1871. He wanted ordinary families to see how the Bible and world history fit together, not as two separate stories, but as one. This edition carries that same purpose: 21 full-size panels, a hardcover case that keeps them together, and a chart you can open with your children the way parents did more than a century ago.
- There is something almost overwhelming about seeing six thousand years laid out side by side. While one kingdom rises, another is already fading. While prophets speak in one land, armies are marching in another. This synchronological chart places sacred and secular history in parallel columns, using the same Ussher chronology that generations of North American families learned in Sunday school. Parents will recognize it. Their children will see it for the first time.
- Fold it open like a book, or stretch it across the floor and watch it run twenty-three feet from wall to wall. Twenty-one panels unfold into one continuous stream of time, from Creation to the late 19th century. This is the kind of thing you gather the family around on a Sunday afternoon, or leave on a classroom wall for a semester. Kids who see the whole sweep of history stretched out before them start asking questions you never expected.
- This edition preserves the 19th-century voice of the original chart—its handwritten commentary, its period artwork, and the way it reads like a document from another time. It is the same chart that hung in libraries and classrooms in the 1870s, inviting readers to trace the rise and fall of nations, the lives of prophets and kings, and the quiet turning points that shaped the world. You are not just looking at history. You are reading it the way a 19th-century student would have.
- Some resources are meant to be studied. This one is meant to be lived with. Homeschool families use it as a spine for world history. Bible study groups unfold it on a long table. Parents tell us their kids keep it open on the floor, tracing the line from Adam to Abraham to David to Christ. It also makes a gift that says something: here is the whole story, from the beginning, in your hands.
Counts can include songs credited to an artist as a collaborator or featured performer. Rihanna’s total of 14 includes three chart-toppers in featured roles. Drake’s credited appearances likewise count: Billboard’s October 2023 reporting includes songs billed “Drake feat.” and “Future feat. Drake.” An uncredited appearance is not the same as an official artist credit.
How the ranking changed since 2023
A Billboard Canada table published in October 2023 listed The Beatles at 20, Carey at 19, Rihanna at 14, Drake and Michael Jackson at 13, Madonna and The Supremes at 12, Whitney Houston at 11, and Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder at 10. That is a historical snapshot, not the current ranking. In the later report tied to May 30, 2026, Drake had reached 14 and joined Rihanna and Taylor Swift in a tie.

How to compare artists across chart eras
The total number of No. 1s offers a clear way to compare chart achievements, but it does not tell the whole story of how those hits accumulated. Billboard has noted that streaming-era album releases can send many songs onto the chart at once, while earlier eras more often promoted one radio single at a time. That difference is useful context, but it does not erase the shared accomplishment of reaching No. 1.
The ranking also brings solo artists and groups together, and credited collaborations contribute to some totals. The sources cited here do not establish a complete first-to-latest No. 1 date range for every artist, so a comparison of how quickly each act reached its total cannot be made from these figures alone.
