The evidence supports one clearly documented athlete couple—not a verified list of ten. In a 2015 profile, Guinness World Records reported that Chinese basketball player Sun Mingming and handball player Xu Yan were married and described them as the tallest married couple at that time. Their reported heights differed by about 49 cm (19.3 in).

Guinness World Records’ September 9, 2015 profile identifies Sun Mingming as a Chinese basketball player measuring 236.17 cm (7 ft 8.98 in) and Xu Yan as a handball player measuring 187.3 cm (6 ft 1.74 in). The difference between those reported measurements is 48.87 cm, or about 19.2 inches. The same profile says they were married and calls them the tallest married couple at that time—a historical description, not confirmation of a current record or their present relationship status.
The couple described practical effects of their stature in the profile: “Everyday tasks such as traveling by car, plane or getting a room in a hotel do prove difficult, but we’re used to these problems.” That observation is theirs, as quoted by Guinness, rather than a general claim about couples with height differences.

A height difference between teammates is not evidence of romance
NBC Olympics lists beach volleyball players Taryn Kloth at 6 ft 4 in and Kristen Nuss at 5 ft 6 in, a difference of 10 inches. Its report describes them as teammates, friends, and business partners—not as romantic partners. Their height contrast and a podcast name that plays on it do not establish a relationship beyond what the source says.

A tall record-holder couple, but not an athlete example
Guinness World Records reported in 2013 that Sultan Kösen, whom it identified as the world’s tallest man, was married to Merve Dibo. The article gives Kösen’s height as 8 ft 3 in and Dibo’s as 5 ft 9 in. It does not establish that Kösen was an athlete, so this couple should not be counted in an athlete-and-partner list without a separate reliable source for that description. The report and measurements are dated; they do not establish current relationship status or record standings.

What these examples can—and cannot—show
These profiles document individual cases, not how common height-disparate relationships are. They also show why a list needs reliable identification of both the sport and the relationship: a large height difference, a shared team, or a photograph alone is not enough to call two people lovers. On the evidence available here, only Sun Mingming and Xu Yan fit the athlete-couple premise; Kloth and Nuss are teammates, while the Kösen profile does not identify him as an athlete.
