The Shondaland series in the headline is Scandal, Shonda Rhimes’ political drama starring Kerry Washington. Netflix announced on May 19, 2025, that all seven seasons would return to Netflix in the United States on June 17, 2025. That announcement gives a dated U.S. release, not confirmation of the show’s current availability or its status in other countries.
Which Shondaland show was heading back to Netflix?
It was Scandal, created by Shonda Rhimes. Netflix’s May 19, 2025 announcement said the series would return to its U.S. catalog on June 17, 2025, with all seven seasons available. Netflix Tudum’s announcement is the source for the date and season count.

What is Scandal about?
Kerry Washington plays Olivia Pope, a former presidential media consultant who runs a crisis-management firm in Washington, DC. She and her team manage high-profile clients’ scandals while Olivia navigates secrets of her own. The show’s focus is the people and power struggles around the nation’s capital, rather than documentary reporting.
Is Scandal based on a true story?
No. Netflix describes Scandal as fictional. Olivia Pope is loosely based on real-life fixer Judy Smith, who also served as a co-executive producer; that connection is inspiration, not evidence that the series recounts Smith’s life or actual cases.

Does Netflix still have Scandal?
The announcement establishes that Netflix planned to make all seven seasons available in the United States beginning June 17, 2025. It does not establish whether the series remains in Netflix’s U.S. catalog now, or whether it is available in another country. Check Netflix’s catalog for your location for current availability.
