Beau DeMayo’s first reported public comments after leaving X-Men ’97 came in an April 2024 fan Q&A about the show—not an explanation of his departure. Marvel later said it had terminated him after an internal investigation; DeMayo subsequently disputed aspects of his treatment and said a separate Season 2 credits decision was tied to Pride-related fan art. Those accounts are distinct, and the public record described below does not resolve the underlying dispute.
What did Beau DeMayo say after leaving X-Men ’97?
On April 11, 2024, DeMayo returned to social media to respond to fan questions about the animated series. The Daily Beast reported that he discussed creative decisions and developments in recent episodes, while acknowledging there were “lotta questions.” He did not use that Q&A to explain why he had left the show. The Daily Beast’s April 11 report framed the moment as a return to discussing the series, not a full account of his exit.
Why did DeMayo leave the series?
Marvel said in March 2024 that DeMayo had been terminated following an internal investigation. The company’s public statement did not detail its findings. Contemporary coverage by the Los Angeles Times cited unnamed sources who characterized the investigation as involving alleged sexual misconduct. That was anonymously sourced reporting, not a detailed finding disclosed by Marvel or a judicial determination.
So the most precise answer is that Marvel publicly described DeMayo’s departure as a termination after an internal investigation, but the company did not publicly lay out the investigation’s evidence or conclusions in its statement. DeMayo’s later allegations about his workplace experience are a separate account, not an established finding that explains the March decision.

What was the dispute over his Season 2 credits?
In August 2024, DeMayo said Marvel had notified him that his Season 2 credits would be removed because of X-Men fan art with a Pride theme that he had posted in June. TheWrap reported his post saying, “I’ll have more to say soon.” Marvel responded that he had been terminated in March after an internal investigation and cited the nature of its findings. TheWrap’s August 15, 2024 account reports both positions.
The credits dispute should not be conflated with the earlier termination: DeMayo linked the later credits decision to his fan art, while Marvel described the March termination as following its investigation. Those are claims about different decisions and dates.

What did DeMayo later allege about Marvel?
In September 2024 and later interviews, DeMayo publicly alleged discriminatory treatment and a hostile work environment. In a November 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, he described his experience this way: “I thought I was in a safe space, and then quickly found out that I was not in a safe space.” ComicBook.com’s September 2024 coverage and Vanity Fair’s 2026 retrospective report on his statements.
These are DeMayo’s allegations. The reporting cited here does not establish them as findings by a court or an independent investigation. Likewise, Marvel’s statement establishes the company’s stated position about the termination; it does not make the contents or merits of its internal investigation public.

In 2026, Vanity Fair reported that DeMayo retained creator, executive producer, and writer credits on Season 2, and that his suit remained active in California court. TheWrap reported a trial date of July 2027. Court schedules can change, so that date is a reported schedule, not a guarantee of when the case will be heard.
