The divide is less mysterious when the series is treated as gentle lifestyle entertainment rather than a revealing documentary, a cooking course, or a showcase for expert instruction. Its polished rituals may feel soothing to one viewer and sterile to another.
What does With Love, Meghan actually offer?
Season 1 is an eight-part lifestyle series in which Meghan cooks with chefs and celebrity friends and tries practical activities such as harvesting honey and assembling balloon arches. Its emphasis is on finding beauty in everyday tasks, an approach connected to her earlier lifestyle-blogging work. ABC News describes the tips as basic and notes that the show does not present her as a chef.
That distinction sets a fair expectation. This is not a cooking competition or a technical instructional course. The demonstrations are small-scale inspiration for cooking, arranging, gardening, and hosting—not evidence of unusual culinary expertise.
Why some viewers see real merit
Simple ideas can still be useful
Fruit arrangements, flowers, and convenient store-bought shortcuts may not be novel, but they can make an ordinary gathering feel more considered. The appeal is accessibility: viewers can borrow a small idea without needing specialist skills or elaborate plans.

#1 Best Overall
Meghan herself signals the modest ambition. ABC News quotes her saying, “It’s not rocket science. Clearly, I’m not a rocket scientist,” and describing an activity as something that “isn’t that deep, but it is thoughtful.” For viewers who want low-stakes inspiration rather than expert instruction, that scale can be part of the charm.
A calm, attractive kind of company
The series offers an easygoing environment and carefully presented domestic rituals. If a viewer wants soothing lifestyle entertainment, the pace and visual polish can make the show pleasant company. On this reading, it is not trying to reinvent hosting; it is making familiar tasks feel inviting.
Why the same qualities frustrate other viewers
Practical inspiration may feel too basic
Accessibility has a limit: viewers looking for genuinely new recipes, detailed technique, or expert guidance may find the ideas thin. A demonstration can be thoughtful without teaching much, and the show’s modest ambitions will not satisfy an audience expecting a how-to course.
Polish can read as sterility
Carefully controlled presentation is either a comfort or a barrier, depending on what a viewer wants. TIME’s review describes the series as filmed in a rented kitchen rather than the couple’s home and finds it polite but distant. Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 1 critics consensus calls it “Insistently pleasant but ultimately sterile” and says it “frustratingly encases its tour through the Duchess’ lifestyle in bubblewrap.”

Those are critical interpretations, not proof that every scene is artificial or that every viewer shares the reaction. They do, however, identify the central tension: an immaculate atmosphere can feel calming, yet leave little room for spontaneity.
Entertainment is not the same as personal access
Some viewers may approach a lifestyle series featuring a public figure expecting candid glimpses into her home life or personality. TIME’s criticism is that the show’s presentation does not provide that intimacy. If the expectation is personal access, a polished activity-based format can feel distant even when the activities themselves are pleasant.

What the ratings show—and what they cannot explain
Rotten Tomatoes’ pages, checked in 2026, list Season 1 at 38% from 34 critic reviews and 33% from more than 2,500 audience ratings. Season 1 ratings show a negative overall reception on that platform, but they do not establish why reviewers or viewers disliked it.
Season 2’s page lists 17% from six critic reviews and 27% from more than 250 audience ratings. The critic sample is small, so the season scores should not be treated as a robust head-to-head trend. Both seasons’ numbers are platform snapshots that can change, not measures of every viewer’s opinion.

The available reviews offer plausible explanations—basic instruction, conspicuous polish, and limited intimacy—but they do not quantify how much each factor drove the reaction. The ratings register reception, not motive.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is most likely to enjoy it?
- A good fit: viewers looking for calm, aspirational domestic entertainment and small, accessible ideas for making everyday hosting feel more thoughtful.
- A less likely fit: viewers seeking advanced cooking instruction, spontaneous behind-the-scenes access, or a candid and unvarnished portrait of Meghan.
The same qualities explain both the appeal and the backlash: the show keeps its stakes low and its presentation polished. That can make it a relaxing watch—or leave it feeling too careful to be compelling.
What is known about the show’s future?
The Associated Press reported on March 7, 2025, that Netflix had announced a second season and that it had already been shot; the Season 2 page lists an August 2025 premiere. The AP report documents the renewal at that time.
In January 2026, The Daily Beast reported, citing Page Six and unnamed people described as close to the show, that it would not return for a third season; its article said Netflix had been contacted for confirmation. That is a reported cancellation claim, not an official Netflix announcement established by the cited account.
