A fan-made animated recreation of the first A Minecraft Movie trailer offered viewers a version closer to Minecraft’s block-based visual style. Credited to Alumio, Maraylin, and Comic Cyrus, the video appeared shortly after the official trailer debuted in September 2024. Some viewers called it “way better,” but that reaction was subjective—not evidence that Minecraft fans generally preferred animation.
What the animated recreation was
The video recreated the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie as animation, setting Minecraft’s block-based visual language against the official film’s live-action approach. GameSpot reported on September 9, 2024 that the fan remake had been released after the official trailer appeared. Know Your Meme dates the video to September 8 and credits Alumio, Maraylin, and Comic Cyrus.
Know Your Meme also reproduces a description attached to the video: “We didn’t really like how the official movie looked so we remade it.” The archive does not identify a particular speaker for that line, so it is best understood as the creators’ published description, not a separately verified interview.
The available accounts do not describe which software the creators used, how they made the animation, or how the three divided the work. GameSpot’s report and Know Your Meme’s video record establish the credits and timing, not the production process.

How it differed from the official trailer
| Aspect | Fan recreation | Official film trailer |
|---|---|---|
| Visual approach | Animated imagery drawing on Minecraft’s block-based look. | Marketing for a live-action adaptation, combining performers with computer-generated elements. |
| Purpose and production | A fan-made recreation of the trailer, credited to Alumio, Maraylin, and Comic Cyrus. | Promotion for a feature film directed by Jared Hess. |
| What it represents | One creative response to the official trailer’s visual approach. | The studio’s presentation of its own adaptation. |
The contrast helps explain why the remake appealed to some viewers: its animated world looked more recognizably like the game’s blocks. That does not establish that it would work better as a full-length film, or that every viewer wanted the movie to use that style.
Why some viewers called it “way better”
Comments in a discussion on r/Minecraft include phrases such as “This is WAY BETTER” and “The Minecraft movie trailer but ACTUALLY better.” These capture the enthusiasm of individual commenters, not a poll or a representative sample of Minecraft players. The same discussion also includes disagreement about whether the remake’s visual style would suit an entire movie.
