Their exchange was about Chrisley’s assertion—not evidence that Democrats had selected a candidate or that Ocasio-Cortez had decided to run for president.
What Savannah Chrisley said on The View
During a Hot Topics discussion, the panel was talking about Ocasio-Cortez’s answer to a question about Taiwan at the Munich Security Conference on February 13. Joy Behar urged viewers to consider Donald Trump’s on-camera mishaps, too. Chrisley replied that what mattered was how someone recovered after a stumble, and argued that Ocasio-Cortez had not recovered.
Chrisley then said, “AOC, though, is also the Democrats’ pick for the next election.” The exchange was reported as happening on Chrisley’s second day as a guest cohost. The panelists present were Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Behar, Sunny Hostin and Chrisley. AOL’s report, originally published by Entertainment Weekly, recounts the segment; it is not an official transcript.
How the panel responded
Goldberg and Haines shook their heads, and Goldberg said, “No, no, no!” Behar replied, “You better tell that to Gavin Newsom!” Hostin said Ocasio-Cortez had made clear she was not running for president in 2028. A contemporaneous Parade account likewise describes the panel correcting Chrisley’s characterization.

Behar’s mention of Newsom served as a counterpoint in the conversation. It did not establish that he had been selected or nominated by the party.
What Ocasio-Cortez said about a 2028 run
The AOL/Entertainment Weekly report says Ocasio-Cortez had recently maintained she was not entering the 2028 presidential race. It quotes her explanation to The New York Times for attending the Munich conference: “not because I’m running for president, not because I’ve made some kind of decision about a horse race or a candidacy, but because we need to sound the alarm bells that a lot of those folks in nicely pressed suits in that room will not be there much longer if we do not do something about the runaway inequality that is fueling far-right populist movements.”
