Nintendo and Illumination released an official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on November 12, 2025, then followed it with a final trailer on March 10, 2026. The announcements introduced Rosalina and Bowser Jr., later added Yoshi and other characters, and confirmed the film’s creative team. Whether that is “everything fans have been waiting for” is a matter of taste: the official announcements do not measure fan opinion.
What the first trailer revealed
Nintendo and Illumination premiered the official trailer during a Nintendo Direct on November 12, 2025. The announcement described the project as “the new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” and said Universal Pictures would distribute it worldwide. At the time, the planned release was April 2026. Nintendo and Illumination’s November announcement also confirmed two new cast members:
- Brie Larson as Rosalina
- Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
The announcement named the returning voice cast as Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Those roles were confirmed in the November announcement; it did not yet include the cast additions announced in March.
What changed in the final trailer
Nintendo announced the final trailer on March 10, 2026. It added Donald Glover as Yoshi, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, and Luis Guzmán as Wart. Nintendo’s announcement says Glover voices Yoshi in all languages and territories worldwide. The final-trailer announcement also confirmed the film’s production credits:

The two announcements serve different purposes: November introduced the first trailer and the initial new cast details, while March’s final-trailer release filled in additional cast and production information and gave territory-specific release dates.
Does the trailer prove this is what fans wanted?
It gives viewers concrete reasons for the anticipation implied by the title: Rosalina and Bowser Jr. were named in the first announcement, and the later announcement brought Yoshi, Honey Queen, and Wart into the confirmed cast. The announcements also established a returning creative and voice-cast lineup. Those are verifiable details, not a measure of how fans collectively feel.

Nintendo and Illumination’s announcements do not provide a representative survey or other quantified measure of audience reaction. So “everything fans have been waiting for” works as an enthusiastic opinion, not a factual claim about all fans. The earlier The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide, according to Nintendo’s March 2026 announcement, but that figure describes the 2023 film—not the sequel or its trailer.
Release dates and home viewing
The March announcement says the film opened on April 1, 2026, in the United States and many additional markets, on April 24 in Japan, and on dates throughout April in select territories. There is no single worldwide opening date in that announcement.
