What new anime is coming out in 2026, and what should you watch? As of October 4, the strongest confirmed picks include two series already airing in Japan, Netflix anime with October or 2026 release windows, and three late-year animated films. This is a selective guide, not a definitive ranked top 10: the available announcements do not verify ten distinct anime releases. The films are identified separately because “animated” does not necessarily mean “anime.” Release dates and viewing access vary by title and region.

What anime should you watch in 2026?
For a straightforward choice, start with the kind of release you want and how firm its date is. The dates below are not interchangeable: a confirmed day, a month-only window, and a year-only window tell you different things about when you can plan to watch.
- Want a series already airing? Check local access to The Apothecary Diaries season 3 or Pop Up Popperz; TOHO lists Japanese broadcast starts on October 2 and October 4, respectively.
- Looking for a relationship-focused returning series? Blue Box season 2 is the most specific Netflix announcement among these October anime picks, but Netflix gives a month rather than a day.
- Prefer an announced story and a past premiere date? Netflix lists Dandelion for April 16. Check your local catalog to confirm whether it is available where you watch.
- Waiting for a later-stage return? STEEL BALL RUN has a 2026 window, but no exact day in Netflix’s announcement.
- Interested in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2? Treat October 20 as a date reported by GamesRadar, rather than as independently confirmed by the official announcement cited here.
Animated films coming to Netflix in late 2026
These are Netflix animated films, not additional anime entries. Netflix’s announced dates are global release claims, with one stated country exception; check the service’s local catalog for availability.
#1 Best Overall
| Film | Netflix-announced release | Premise or detail |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | November 20, 2026; global release. | The cited announcement does not give a premise. |
| In Waves | December 11, 2026; global release excluding France. | Teenagers AJ and Kristen connect through surfing, skateboarding, and drawing. Directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen. |

How to read the dates and check where to watch
A release announcement is not always a promise of the same date or access everywhere. TOHO’s entries are broadcast listings; Netflix’s announcements describe its own releases, but do not settle every regional catalog detail. The GamesRadar date for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 is secondary reporting.
- Use the exact date only when the cited announcement supplies one. A month or year alone is a release window, not a premiere day.
- Check the relevant service’s catalog for your country close to release. The announcements cited here do not provide complete territory-by-territory availability.
- For the TOHO broadcast listings, verify local broadcast or streaming access separately; the cited page does not establish international availability.
Netflix says its anime programming generated more than 1.5 billion views in 2025. It also says more than 130 million members worldwide watch animated titles each month; that company figure covers animation in all forms, not anime alone. Neither figure is an independent audience measurement or a basis for ranking these selections.
