What is The Diplomat Season 2 about?
The season picks up after the explosion at the end of Season 1. Kate Wyler, the US ambassador to the UK, is still reckoning with the attack, which put people close to her—including her husband, Hal—at risk. She investigates the bombing and its connection to an attack on a British naval ship while managing tense US-UK relations, a complicated marriage and the demands of her post.
The mystery challenges the assumption that a foreign rival was responsible. Creator Debora Cahn described the season’s central idea this way: “The call is coming from inside the house.” Netflix Tudum’s Season 2 guide

How does The Diplomat Season 2 end?
Spoilers for the Season 2 finale.
Kate discovers that the attack did not come from a rival nation: it was orchestrated from within the British government. Former adviser Margaret “Meg” Roylin is involved, and the investigation ultimately reveals that Vice President Grace Penn was involved too. Penn wanted to stop Scottish independence efforts because independence could threaten the future of the Creegan nuclear-submarine base, which serves the US and UK.
In the finale, Hal bypasses Secretary of State Miguel Ganon and contacts President Rayburn directly about Penn. Rayburn reacts badly, then dies, leaving Penn as president. The succession turns the investigation into a crisis that carries into Season 3. Netflix’s Season 3 guide and recap recounts the Season 2 revelations and finale.
