There is no official, objective ranking of WWE’s greatest factions. This list weighs influence on wrestling and WWE programming, championship significance, longevity, star-making, cultural recognition, and the staying power of each group’s identity. It includes factions whose histories began in NWA or WCW when their influence became part of WWE’s story; those origins are identified rather than recast as WWE beginnings.
The order is an editorial judgment: a list prioritizing industry disruption might put the nWo first, while one focused on WWE continuity and cultural identity could favor The New Day. The ten below make a defensible cross-era selection, not a claim of consensus.
How this ranking weighs faction greatness
A faction can matter for different reasons: it may reshape the business, dominate championships, give future singles stars a launchpad, or remain recognizable long after its original run. The ranking balances those measures rather than treating title totals or longevity alone as decisive. The New Day’s sustained identity, for example, is a different achievement from the nWo’s industry-wide disruption; the Four Horsemen’s legacy begins in NWA and WCW, not WWE.
Because some groups changed membership or had distinct versions, the entries specify which incarnation is being discussed. The list is not an official WWE ranking.

1. The New Day
Why they rank first
The New Day has one of the strongest cases for a top spot built around consistency, longevity, and a distinctive identity. WWE’s own feature argues for the group as its leading faction, comparing it with DX, the nWo, the Four Horsemen, and The Shield; that is WWE editorial opinion, not an official all-time verdict. The trio’s catchphrases, Booty-O’s cereal, and Francesca the trombone helped make its presentation immediately recognizable, while Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania 35 gave the group a major singles-career milestone to celebrate.
Its place here rests on the combination of recognizable character work and sustained championship-level relevance, not on a time-sensitive title-reign count.
2. nWo
WCW origins and wider impact
The New World Order began in WCW, not WWE. WWE’s profile traces its arrival to Scott Hall and Kevin Nash in 1996, with Hulk Hogan’s addition transforming the group and Sean Waltman, then known as Syxx, joining soon after. Its black-and-white shirts became a trademark, and the faction’s “We’re taking over!” slogan captured its insurgent identity.
The nWo belongs on a WWE-history list because its influence crossed company boundaries and it later had a WWE run after WCW closed in 2001. WWE’s New Day feature cites an 83-week WCW Monday Nitro ratings streak over Monday Night Raw to illustrate the group’s impact; that is WWE’s retrospective claim, rather than an independently audited ratings dataset. WWE inducted the nWo into its Hall of Fame in 2020.
3. D-Generation X
A changing lineup, one unmistakable identity
Shawn Michaels and Triple H publicly revealed their alliance in summer 1997. DX later included Chyna, Rick Rude, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, and X-Pac, and it became a defining act of WWE’s Attitude Era. Its history includes a split and later reunions, so “DX” refers to more than one fixed lineup or uninterrupted run.

The group’s influence endured beyond its original formation: a later configuration of Triple H and Shawn Michaels won the Unified WWE Tag Team Championships. WWE Corporate reported DX’s Hall of Fame induction in 2019. Triple H described the honor this way: “Being a part of DX remains one of the highlights of my career and it is truly an honor to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside my closest friends”.
4. The Four Horsemen
A foundational faction outside WWE
The Four Horsemen’s roots are in NWA and WCW history, not WWE. WWE’s retrospective describes the group as controlling major NWA titles and notes that later incarnations were measured against the original lineup. Its importance to WWE history is chiefly a matter of influence: WWE says that Evolution and Legacy cited the Horsemen as inspirations.
The Horsemen rank highly for the faction model they established and the lineage that followed. Their inclusion here recognizes that legacy without suggesting the group was formed in WWE.

Short original run, long singles afterlife
The Shield’s original trio was Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose. USA Network’s faction overview highlights their tag-team and United States Championship success, followed by major singles careers for all three members. WWE’s New Day feature describes the original run as lasting about a year and a half before Rollins betrayed Reigns.
That relatively short first chapter is a consideration in a ranking that values longevity, but The Shield’s shared identity and the star-making impact of its members make it one of WWE’s most consequential modern factions.
Rank #3
- Roll down to the ring with the Lucha Low Rider vehicle.
- Includes a WWE Main Event Rey Mysterio action figure with advanced articulation.
- Recreate iconic entrances with the Lucha Low Rider hydraulics action.
- Rey Mysterio can enter the match with the vehicle's launching action.
- Ride into matches with real rolling wheels.
6. Evolution
Past, present, and future in one stable
Evolution brought together Triple H, Ric Flair, Randy Orton, and Batista around a concept of representing wrestling’s past, present, and future. USA Network identifies those members and describes the group’s generational framework. WWE also links Evolution to the Four Horsemen through its retrospective account of the faction’s inspiration.
Evolution’s appeal was the contrast among its members: Flair represented an established legacy, Triple H stood as the dominant present force, and Orton and Batista were positioned as future stars. The stable’s place in the Horsemen lineage and its role in launching prominent singles careers strengthen its case.

Two related lineups, not one continuous faction
The name Hart Foundation can refer to two distinct formations. WWE’s profile covers the Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart tag team: they entered WWE’s tag ranks in 1985, won the World Tag Team Championship in 1987 and again in 1990, split by summer 1991, and were inducted together into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019.
The expanded 1997 stable was a different lineup. USA Network’s overview names Bret and Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, The British Bulldog, and Brian Pillman. Keeping the versions separate matters: the tag team’s championship history and the later group’s identity belong to related but distinct chapters.

Faction as an authority structure
The Corporation was an Attitude Era stable aligned with management and led by Vince and Shane McMahon. USA Network’s overview lists The Rock and other wrestlers among its members and says members held multiple WWE championships at one point. Its defining idea was not simply a team of rivals joining forces; it turned corporate power and authority into part of the faction’s storyline role.
Rank #4
- Ready to Rock! WWE Elite Collection action figures bring WWE Superstars to life in 6-inch scale.
- TrueFX Technology! Each figure features highly detailed life-like facial features.
- Dynamic Posing! Recreate signature moves with 25 points of articulation.
- Extra Pieces! Includes interchangeable hands and iconic accessories for play and display.
- Super Collectible! WWE fans can find their favorite Superstar figures (each sold separately, subject to availability).
That concept gives The Corporation a place among WWE’s most memorable factions, especially when influence on programming is weighed alongside in-ring achievements.

9. The Nation of Domination
A candidate with a strong claim to the conversation
The Nation of Domination is a familiar candidate in discussions of WWE factions, but the sources available for this ranking do not establish its lineup, defining storylines, championship record, or broader impact in enough detail to support a factual profile. It is included as a considered candidate rather than presented with unsourced specifics. Its placement is therefore less firmly documented here than entries supported by WWE profiles or the USA Network overview.
10. The Bloodline
A modern-era contender
The Bloodline is another plausible contender for a list spanning WWE history, particularly for readers weighing modern storytelling and sustained prominence. However, the sources supporting this ranking do not verify its lineup, era, title record, or defining storylines, so this entry makes no specific historical claims about those points. Its inclusion signals the debate over how recent factions should be weighed against groups with longer-established historical records.
Why different rankings will produce a different top ten
The criteria shift the order. A ranking focused on industry disruption elevates the nWo; one centered on WWE continuity and cultural signatures gives The New Day a powerful case. A lineage-focused list must account for the Horsemen’s NWA/WCW origins, while a star-making measure favors groups such as The Shield and Evolution. Longevity, championships, cultural recognition, and influence do not always point to the same winner, which is why “best” is ultimately a reasoned editorial choice rather than a settled fact.
