There is no official cross-franchise ranking of anime mascots. This list is an editorial judgment, weighing visual distinctiveness, the character’s role as an emblem, companion, or comic sidekick, its contribution to the story, and how clearly it remains associated with its franchise. “Mascot” is used broadly here: some entries are a lead character’s companion, others a recurring source of comedy, and one is a company symbol. Those roles are related, but not interchangeable.
Who are the 10 best anime mascots?
The order below reflects those criteria, not a measured popularity poll or an official award. The cited official profiles establish each character’s described role and traits; they do not compare the characters’ fame.
-
Pikachu — Pokémon
Pikachu is the clearest companion-led choice on this list. TV Tokyo identifies it as Ash’s best partner, a Mouse Pokémon of the Electric type, and notes Thunderbolt as its specialty move. Its role is more than visual shorthand for Pokémon: it is Ash’s close partner through their adventures. TV Tokyo’s official Pocket Monsters character page supports that relationship.
-
Jibanyan — Yo-kai Watch
Jibanyan earns a high place as a distinctive supernatural companion with a recognizable comic streak. TV Tokyo describes the cat spirit as somewhat lazy and capricious, but reliable at times; its signature attack is “Hyaku-retsu Nikukyū.” That mix of eccentricity and dependability gives the character a role beyond a simple emblem. TV Tokyo’s Yo-kai Watch character page provides the profile.

-
Meowth — Pokémon
Meowth is a memorable recurring member of Team Rocket, the group whose fixation on stealing Ash’s Pikachu makes it a persistent foil to the heroes. Its place here rests on that ongoing sidekick role and its clear association with the rival team—not on an unsupported claim that it outranks other Pokémon in popularity. TV Tokyo’s official character lineup identifies Meowth with Team Rocket.
-
Pero — Puss ’n Boots
Pero stands apart because his mascot role is formally documented: Toei Animation identifies the protagonist of its feature Puss ’n Boots as the company’s symbol. Toei says the film opened on March 18, 1969, and that Pero remains recognized and loved by fans and employees as its symbol. This makes him the list’s strongest example of a character serving as a corporate emblem, rather than only as a companion within a series. Toei Animation’s About Pero page describes both the character and that continuing symbolic role.

Psyduck — Pokémon
Psyduck’s comedy comes from a character-specific contradiction: TV Tokyo says Misty’s Psyduck got into its Poké Ball on its own, and that it struggles to use psychic power unless it has a headache. That unusual companion dynamic makes Psyduck an especially effective comic presence. Its profile appears on TV Tokyo’s official Pocket Monsters character page.
-
Komasan — Yo-kai Watch
Komasan’s story gives this yokai a strong fish-out-of-water setup. Attached to a rural shrine as its komainu, he comes to the city after the shrine is demolished and tries to adapt to urban life. TV Tokyo also notes his “Mongē!” exclamation and his fondness for soft-serve ice cream—small details that give him a specific comic identity. TV Tokyo’s character page supplies those details.

Whisper is a self-appointed yokai butler who follows Keita. TV Tokyo characterizes him as boastful and know-it-all, while also describing him as lovable. That self-important guide role gives the series a recurring source of explanation and comedy, distinct from a conventional animal companion. TV Tokyo’s Yo-kai Watch profile outlines the role.
-
Croagunk — Pokémon
Croagunk’s place is as a comic sidekick within Brock’s orbit. TV Tokyo says Croagunk jabs Brock whenever he becomes infatuated with older women, turning a recurring character flaw into a running gag. The official profile is on TV Tokyo’s Pocket Monsters character page.

-
Wobbuffet — Pokémon
Wobbuffet makes the list as part of Team Rocket’s recurring ensemble, alongside Meowth. Its inclusion reflects the value of a sidekick who helps make a rival group visually and narratively recognizable; the available official profile establishes its Team Rocket association, rather than detailing a particular personality trait or episode gag. See TV Tokyo’s official character lineup.
-
USApyon — Yo-kai Watch
USApyon brings a more unusual backstory to the group. TV Tokyo says USApyon was a small animal that wanted to become a rabbit, was taken in by Dr. Hyūry, and became a yokai after an accident. The same profile describes the character as forceful but lonely. Those details make USApyon a more emotionally complicated companion than a purely comic mascot. TV Tokyo’s official profile is the source for this account.

What makes an anime character a mascot?
In this ranking, a mascot is a visually memorable animal-like or small companion character that functions as a franchise emblem, a recurring companion, or a comic sidekick. The definition deliberately includes different kinds of association: Pikachu accompanies Ash, Team Rocket’s Pokémon recur as part of a rival group, and Pero is documented by Toei Animation as a corporate symbol. Treating every entry as the same kind of mascot would hide what makes each one distinctive.
The ranking weighs four editorial considerations: whether the design is easy to recognize, what role the character plays, what it contributes to story or comedy, and how enduringly it is associated with its franchise. These are qualitative criteria, not numeric scores. The official character pages establish descriptions and roles, while Toei’s page makes an explicit claim about Pero’s continuing symbol role; none establishes a comparative top ten.
Are anime mascots available as collectibles?
Yes. Official listings show that mascot-style plushes and keychains are a real product category, though availability depends on the market and listing. Pokémon Center Online’s Japan-market listing for “30th Anniversary Mascot Pikapika! Pikachu” describes a plush mascot, gives a release date of March 12, 2026, and lists dimensions of 11.5 × 10.5 × 18 cm, weight of 56 g, materials of polyester, polyurethane, and nylon, and age guidance of 4 years and up. Those details apply to that listing, not to every Pikachu plush or to availability in other countries. See the Pokémon Center Online product listing.
Sanrio’s official Keroppi collection also lists plushes and plush mascot keychains, illustrating the broader collectible format. Browse the Keroppi collection.
