Spoilers ahead. “The Challenge” Season 40 reunion’s first installment puts Laurel and Cara’s conflict, Bananas’ accusation against Devin, and surprise arrivals at the center of the conversation. The available detailed recap supports five standout moments—not a verified 18-item sequence—so this is an attributed selection rather than a ranking or a reconstruction of the video title’s full list.
What happens in Reunion Part 1?
Paramount+ lists “Reunion Part 1” as Season 40, Episode 20. Its official synopsis sets up four storylines: Laurel and Cara addressing their conflict, Bananas calling Devin a hypocrite, surprise guests disrupting the reunion, and people who had been targeted turning the confrontation back on their accusers. The listing does not provide a scene-by-scene account, so those hooks should not be mistaken for confirmation of every detail in the moments below.
The season, officially titled The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras, brought together 40 competitors from different eras of the franchise. Paramount’s 2024 announcement said they competed for a share of a $1 million prize. That season premise helps explain why the reunion brings together veterans with long-running rivalries and newer cast relationships.
Five standout moments reported from the reunion
TV Insider’s Amanda Bell published a recap on January 23, 2025, covering both parts of the reunion. The moments here are drawn from that account. Because the recap spans both installments, it does not establish that every moment below occurred in Part 1; the official episode synopsis and recap do not provide enough episode-by-episode detail to label all five more precisely.

Nehemiah’s hot-mic exit
TV Insider reports that Nehemiah Clark left the stage while dealing with a stomach bug and that his microphone remained on, allowing the cast to hear him vomiting. The recap says he later left again with his microphone off. It was an uncomfortable interruption that turned a private illness into an unexpectedly public reunion moment.
Tori calls herself overrated
After finishing fourth in the final, Tori Deal reportedly described herself as “the most overrated” player in light of her performance. Castmates pointed to the context: before the final, she had fought Cara Maria Sorbello in an hours-long elimination. TV Insider says the group ultimately praised the women who made the final, shifting the exchange from self-criticism toward recognition of what they had endured.

Michele names C.T.
When asked to name someone she considered overrated, Michele Fitzgerald chose Chris “C.T.” Tamburello. According to TV Insider, the cast immediately pushed back, and Devin Walker told her, “You’re on your own.” Michele’s later explanation to host T.J. Lavin took place in the reunion’s second half, so it is not part of this moment.
Amanda arrives in a devil costume
TV Insider reports that Amanda Garcia entered in a red leather devil costume after her name came up in a discussion involving host Maria Menounos and Devin. She confronted Devin, while Cory Wharton, joining by video, pretended to sprinkle holy water. The entrance gave the tense exchange a deliberately theatrical edge.

Relationship updates lead to Bananas’ hypocrisy charge
Olivia Kaiser and Theo Campbell said they were still together despite the distance; Theo said he was willing to move to the United States. The recap also says Devin and Michele described their relationship as continuing. TV Insider reports that Bananas then called Devin and Tori hypocrites for objecting to his earlier warnings about Michele. He claimed that he had previously worked with them to confront Johnny’s ex, Moriah Jade, over her showmance with James Lock during Season 39.
Why this is a selection, not a verified list of 18
A YouTube listing from Curating Pop Culture advertises “18 Most Shocking Moments” from Reunion Part 1, but its description does not provide a transcript or the full list. TV Insider’s detailed recap covers both reunion episodes, and its other moments cannot safely be assigned to Part 1 without confirmation. Filling out an 18-entry list would risk inventing details or moving a second-part event into the first. The five moments above are therefore an editorial selection of reported highlights, not an official ranking or a complete episode transcript.
