The Batman Part II is currently set to open in theaters on February 18, 2028, according to the latest reported date. The October 2027 date in the original headline is outdated. The film’s October 2026 production pause has not been reported as a new release-date change.
Is The Batman Part II delayed again?
There has been a further change from the film’s previously announced October 1, 2027 date: on July 15, 2026, director Matt Reeves announced that the theatrical release was moving to February 18, 2028. The October 2027 date is therefore no longer current.
In October 2026, DC Studios said production had temporarily paused while Reeves focused on a family matter. The Los Angeles Times reported that it was too early to know whether the pause would affect the February 2028 release. The pause itself was not announced as another date change.
Why did the release move to 2028?
Variety reported that the July 2026 move would give Reeves additional time in post-production. The announcement followed camera-test footage shared by Reeves. No further reason for the October production pause was given beyond the family matter cited in DC Studios’ statement.

What DC Studios said about the pause
DC Studios said: “Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter.” The statement continued: “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” The statement addressed the pause and Reeves’ circumstances, not a change to the release date. What is known about the sequel
Robert Pattinson is returning as Batman. Reeves co-wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Variety names Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch among the cast; the Los Angeles Times also reports returning cast members Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Jayme Lawson and Gil Perez-Abraham. Their supporting-cast roles and the plot remain under wraps, so rumored character identifications should not be treated as confirmed.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the sequel is expected to follow the events of the 2024 HBO series The Penguin, which takes place after The Batman. That is a reported expectation, not a publicly disclosed plot synopsis. Los Angeles Times
