The Black Phone 2 opened to an estimated $42 million worldwide in October 2025, while horror films had collectively earned more than $1.2 billion at the box office that year through October 19. Those figures support a strong opening during a successful period for the genre, but they do not prove an uninterrupted horror hit streak or establish a full-year 2025 total.
How did The Black Phone 2 perform at the box office?
Universal advertised the film’s theatrical release for October 17, 2025. Universal’s film page gives the release date and identifies the film as the follow-up to the 2021 horror movie.
In its October 19, 2025 report, the Associated Press estimated a $26.5 million North American opening and $15.5 million from 71 international territories, for an approximately $42 million worldwide launch. The same report put the production budget at $30 million. These are opening-period estimates and a reported production-budget figure, not a complete measure of the film’s costs or profits. Associated Press
The Numbers later listed an opening weekend of $27,332,040, a domestic gross of $77,378,880, and a worldwide gross of $132,664,627. Its opening-weekend figure is higher than the AP’s contemporaneous $26.5 million estimate because the outlets reported at different times and use different figures. The Numbers’ totals are database listings, not a studio-certified final statement. The Numbers

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What does the opening say about horror’s 2025 box-office run?
The AP reported on October 19, 2025, citing Comscore head of marketplace trends Paul Dergarabedian, that horror had earned more than $1.2 billion at the box office that year to that date. That is evidence of substantial genre momentum as of the report—not a full-year tally and not proof that every horror release succeeded or that the run continued uninterrupted through December. Associated Press
The film’s launch fits that favorable context: its reported worldwide opening was about $42 million, compared with a reported $30 million production budget. But a simple gross-to-budget comparison cannot establish profitability. The cited figures do not account for marketing, distribution costs, or the share of ticket sales retained by theaters.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Who went to see it on opening weekend?
Exit-poll figures reported by the AP offer a snapshot of that weekend’s audience, not a permanent profile of the film’s viewers. The poll attributed 63% of opening-weekend moviegoers to ages 18–34. It also reported that Hispanic moviegoers accounted for 39% of ticket buyers and Caucasian moviegoers for 35%. Associated Press
Jim Orr, who heads Universal’s domestic distribution, called the opening “a fantastic opening,” according to the same AP report. That is the studio representative’s assessment rather than an independent measure of the film’s performance.

Can The Black Phone 2 be called part of a horror “winning streak”?
It is fair to say the film opened strongly while horror was generating significant box-office revenue in 2025. The available figures do not establish a comprehensive ranking of horror releases, a continuous streak of successful films, or the genre’s final year-end total. Those broader claims would require consistent comparisons—such as domestic or worldwide grosses over the same period—across the full slate of releases.
