During a July 8, 2024 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, The Bachelorette star Jenn Tran asked Kelly Ripa where she met her husband, Mark Consuelos. Ripa said they met while working on the soap opera All My Children. Tran’s pointed follow-up — “On TV, no?” — came after Ripa questioned why Tran would look for love on a dating show.
What Jenn Tran asked Kelly Ripa
Ripa asked Tran why she would go on The Bachelorette when she could meet someone elsewhere. Tran joked, “I mean, is Hinge any better?” Ripa suggested meeting someone at work or medical school. Tran then asked, “Where’d you meet your husband?”
Ripa replied that she met Consuelos at work while they were filming All My Children. Tran answered, “On TV, no?” The exchange took place during Tran’s guest appearance on the July 8 episode, listed in the show’s episode guide.
Why Ripa said the situations were different
Ripa pushed back on the comparison, saying, “Those are not the same! We were both professionals. Are you acting on your show?” She added, “I didn’t marry Mateo Santos. I married Mark Consuelos.” Mateo Santos was Consuelos’s character on All My Children; Ripa’s point was that she and Consuelos met as working actors, rather than through the premise of a dating reality show. They married in 1996, according to Us Weekly’s account.

Tran’s question can read as a teasing challenge to Ripa’s advice, but the exchange alone does not establish that Tran meant it as a serious insult or that Ripa was angry. Entertainment Tonight’s report and Us Weekly described the moment as awkward; those are characterizations of the interaction, not evidence of a feud.

A week later, Tran said the interaction was “all in good fun” and described it as “sarcastic banter.” She also said she did not take Ripa’s remarks to heart in her July 15 follow-up with Us Weekly.
The interview also aired as Tran made history as the first Asian American lead of The Bachelorette; the episode guide links a related video about that milestone.
