Pit Girl is Mari, played by Alexa Barajas. In the Season 3 finale, “Full Circle,” Mari draws the fatal card, is hunted by the other Yellowjackets and falls into the spiked pit first seen in the series’ pilot.
How Mari becomes Pit Girl
The group decides to draw cards to choose its next prey. Tai and Van try to rig the draw so newcomer Hannah will take the Queen of Hearts, but Shauna catches their maneuver and changes the order. Mari draws the fatal card. Shauna places Jackie’s heart necklace around her neck and starts the countdown.
Mari runs, sheds her conspicuous outer clothes and is left in the nightgown familiar from the pilot’s opening hunt. She falls into the spiked pit and dies. The sequence turns the pilot’s image of an unknown girl being hunted into a specific event: the victim is one of the teammates, chosen through the group’s ritualized draw. TIME’s finale coverage traces the draw, chase and connection to the pilot.
What the pilot callback reveals
The finale’s chase recreates the pilot’s central image, but now viewers know how that scene came about. The nightgown, the hunt and the pit are not a separate mystery involving an unidentified outsider; they are the result of the group’s choice of Mari. The callback supplies context for the pilot’s opening without resolving every mystery in the series.

The creators confirmed that Mari was the intended reveal. In an interview published April 11, 2025, co-creator and showrunner Ashley Lyle said, “It was the plan. We love Alexa. She did an incredible job this season.” Co-creator and showrunner Bart Nickerson described the premiere and finale chases as “foreshadowing yet distracting.” TheWrap’s interview includes both comments.
What the finale leaves unresolved
Pit Girl’s identity is settled
Lyle said in a separate interview, “It’s safe to say we have definitively answered who Pit Girl is.” That answer is specifically about Pit Girl, not every question raised by the pilot. Nickerson initially thought a question about the mystery referred to the Antler Queen, underscoring that these are distinct questions. The Los Angeles Times interview discusses the reveal and the creators’ comments about what remains.

Natalie makes contact, but rescue is not shown
The finale’s other major closing thread is teen Natalie using a satellite phone to make contact with the outside world. The phone belonged to researchers who came across the group; Natalie repaired it using a cord from the plane’s transponder. Lyle described Natalie as the person who would get the survivors home, while Nickerson said the path from the signal to rescue remained part of the story. The scene shows contact, not the rescue itself.
The signal brings hope, but it does not settle whether all the survivors want to return to ordinary life. The creators have also discussed the aftermath of rescue and the survivors’ reintegration as territory for the story to explore.
