The cut is described as French-inspired and just above shoulder length, though coverage also calls it a soft, texturized lob; the show has not established an official technical name for it. Lola Tung’s long hair was preserved under a U-line wig rather than cut into the full bob.
What haircut does Belly get?
Belly’s finale look is a bob that sits just above her shoulders. Glamour describes it as a “soft, texturized lob,” while Glamour UK calls it a French bob lengthened to just above the shoulders. Those are editorial descriptions of the same on-screen look, not a formal style name announced by the production. Neither source gives an exact measurement in inches.
The reveal follows the Paris salon scene at the end of the preceding episode. As Stylist reported, episode 10 ends with Belly saying, “Yes. I want to do something new this summer.”
Did Lola Tung cut her hair for the finale?
No—not into the full bob seen on screen. Vogue’s interview with Tung and series creator Jenny Han explains that the team cut the front pieces of Tung’s real hair and used a U-line wig to create the shape at the back. Her long hair remained underneath.

Why does Belly change her hair?
The haircut is presented as a choice Belly makes for herself, not simply a makeover imposed on her. Tung told Vogue, “I was excited when I learned that Belly was getting a bob.” She also described hair as carrying emotional meaning: “Hair can hold weight and memories and meaning, and I think this moment was the perfect time for her to cut hers.”
Han connected the change to the character’s readiness to move forward, while framing it as her interpretation rather than a rule about what a haircut means. “I think women often cut their hair after a breakup or when they want to let go of old baggage and signal to people that they’re ready for change,” she said. Han added, “The idea is that if you look different, then you can feel different.”

How to ask a stylist for a similar bob
Hairstylist Christina Beighton of Larry King’s Notting Hill Salon suggests asking for “a classic blunt bob with beveled edges that naturally curve inward.” Her description of Belly’s look is “a French bob, lengthened to just above the shoulders.” Use the screen reference as a starting point, then specify the details you want rather than relying on the label alone.
- Length: just above the shoulders, or shorter if that is your preference.
- Ends: blunt with a soft inward bevel, or more visibly textured.
- Face framing: discuss whether you want front pieces or layers.
- Finish: ask how much inward curve and polish suits your hair’s texture and your styling routine.
How to style the shape
Beighton’s suggested routine is to work mousse through damp hair, create a center part, and rough-dry the roots. Then use a round brush to smooth the lengths and tuck the ends under; a lightweight styling cream can help with flyaways. This is a stylist’s suggested method, not a product test or a guarantee that every hair type will hold the same shape.
