The show can keep their history as a source of conflict, but a renewed courtship would be difficult to square with the season-two finale and the actor’s description of their connection as increasingly one-sided.
Why the romance was compelling at first
Tyler’s appeal was bound up with the revelation that he was the Hyde. In Netflix’s season-one finale explainer, the creators described Wednesday as drawn to his dark side. That is a characterization of her attraction, not evidence that the relationship was safe, healthy, or destined to last.
The twist gave their flirtation a second meaning: what seemed like a tentative connection became part of the danger Wednesday was investigating. That tension made sense as mystery fuel. It does not necessarily make sense as the basis for a continuing romance.
Season two makes the imbalance hard to ignore
Hunter Doohan, who plays Tyler, described the connection in Netflix’s season-two Woecast as having “always a romantic undertone.” He immediately qualified that reading: “Maybe it’s a little bit more one-sided, this season, from Tyler.” That is Doohan’s view of Tyler’s perspective, not confirmation that Wednesday reciprocates.

That distinction matters. A charged history can remain dramatically useful even when it is not mutual. But if the story treats Tyler’s feelings as a reason to reunite them, it risks mistaking his attachment for a relationship both characters want.
The finale points toward consequences, not courtship
At the end of season two, Tyler asks Wednesday to kill him. She releases him instead. Tyler has killed his mother while in Hyde form, and then accepts an alliance offer from Isadora Capri. Wednesday leaves to search for Enid. Netflix’s season-two ending explainer frames a finale that sends both characters into separate immediate storylines.

Wednesday sparing Tyler is a consequential choice, but it is not a romantic declaration. It leaves room for future confrontation, uneasy cooperation, or unresolved feeling without establishing that she wants him as a partner. Tyler’s grief, violence, and new alliance also give his next chapter a direction beyond winning Wednesday back.
What season three should do with their history
Season three can acknowledge the attraction that once complicated Wednesday’s investigation without reviving it as a love story. The most interesting version would let that past sharpen the stakes: Wednesday knows what Tyler did, Tyler knows how she sees him, and neither fact needs to become an invitation to couple up.

- Keep the tension, not the couple. Their history can create suspicion and emotional friction while Wednesday pursues her own priorities.
- Make reciprocity explicit. If the series intends to present a romance, it should establish Wednesday’s interest on screen rather than infer it from her decision to spare him.
- Give Tyler an independent arc. His actions and alliance with Capri offer story material that does not depend on his pursuit of Wednesday.
Netflix reported in April 2026 that season three was forthcoming, then said in an official September 2026 update that production had wrapped. Those updates do not say whether Wednesday and Tyler will become romantically involved, so the question remains open rather than settled canon.

The Tyler-Wednesday romance worked best as a disturbing complication to the first season’s mystery. By season two, the clearest public description of the romantic undertone came from Tyler’s actor, who characterized it as more one-sided from Tyler’s side. Season three should preserve the consequences of their past and leave room for conflict, but it should not turn Wednesday sparing him into proof of renewed romance.
