Captain Nanette kills Bob, the digital copy of Robert Daly, just as Infinity is being deleted. She transfers into her comatose real-world counterpart, and the two Nanettes merge. The surviving crew are left inside Nanette’s head, sharing her point of view—not free in an independent universe. Nate takes command while Nanette tries to find a way to release them.
How does “USS Callister: Into Infinity” end?
At the Heart of Infinity, Captain Nanette finds Bob, a digital copy of Robert Daly who has been expanding the game. He offers to transfer her into her comatose real-world counterpart and save the crew. Nanette realizes his offer involves making another copy of her so he can keep that version with him. She kills him with his cutlass.
Bob’s death activates a kill switch that deletes Infinity. With the game about to disappear, Captain Nanette transfers into her real-world counterpart. Creator Charlie Brooker describes the outcome as a merge: “Rather than just overriding, she’s kind of merging with her real self.” Netflix Tudum’s ending explainer
The surviving crew end up in Nanette’s head, experiencing the world through her eyes. Nate becomes captain in this new arrangement; Nanette gets occasional privacy, and they watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta together. She is working to free her friends, but the episode gives no method or guarantee that she can do so.

Why were the crew at risk in Infinity?
The original “USS Callister” ended with the crew escaping Daly’s modified private game through a wormhole into the wider Infinity universe. That escape moved them into a larger game, not out of digital existence. Brooker described the cloned characters as “virtual clones” who are “effectively humans in a video game”; for them, injury and death are real, and they have no ordinary way to exit. Netflix Tudum’s original-episode recap
In the sequel, other players treat the crew as game characters, but the crew can be hurt or killed. They lack ordinary player tags and need supplies, so they steal credits and attract enemies. Their journey to the Heart of Infinity is an attempt to find a safer private space—not proof that they have found a route out of the game.

What happens to each character?
- Captain Nanette: She kills Bob, transfers into her real-world counterpart, and merges with her. She continues looking for a way to free the crew.
- Real-world Nanette: She is comatose after being hit by a car. Captain Nanette transfers into her, and the ending presents the result as a merge rather than a simple replacement.
- The surviving crew: They are in Nanette’s head and share her point of view. Nate takes the captain’s chair; they are not shown escaping from her.
- Shania: Captain Nanette says Shania was killed four weeks before the main events. Her death continues to weigh on Nanette.
- Karl: Walton’s in-game attack fatally wounds him. Netflix’s ending account nevertheless identifies Karl among the crew with Nanette after the merge, so the episode’s account does not establish that he is absent from the final arrangement.
- Bob / digital Daly: Nanette kills him at the Heart of Infinity. His death triggers the game’s deletion.
- Real-world Walton: His digital counterpart had respawned in Infinity after dying in the first episode. In the sequel, the real Walton is arrested by the FBI after three months on the run.
Are the crew free at the end?
No independent escape is shown. The crew survives the deletion by ending up in Nanette’s head, but they remain dependent on her and share her inner life. The arrangement gives them companionship and a degree of safety, while raising a new question of autonomy: Nanette’s privacy is limited, and the crew relies on her to find a way out. That is an interpretation of the situation, not a further plot event.
The episode does not explain how the crew could be extracted or confirm that Nanette will succeed. Brooker has left the possibility of more story open, saying there could be “unfinished business potentially” and “Never say never!”—not confirming another installment. How does the ending connect to the original episode?
The original episode’s escape into Infinity was a beginning rather than a guarantee of safety. Brooker said the crew entering the wider game felt like “the start of a new chapter.” Netflix Tudum’s Q&A with Brooker The sequel follows that chapter through its consequences: the crew gains a larger world, but remains vulnerable within it, and its final refuge is a compromise rather than the freedom it sought.
