Full spoilers for “It Went By So Fast,” the series finale of Superman & Lois. The final episode resolves Lex Luthor’s threat, then follows Clark and Lois through a lifetime: Lois dies first, Clark grows old as a human, and he eventually dies peacefully with his family around him. The ending makes mortality—not another miraculous return—the final chapter of this Superman story.
How the finale resolves the immediate threat
“It Went By So Fast” is episode 410 and the series finale. The CW lists its original airdate as December 2, 2024, after announcing in 2023 that season four would be the show’s final season, planned for 10 episodes. The CW’s episode listing identifies it as the epic series finale.
The Kents face Lex Luthor’s final move on Smallville together and defeat the threat involving Lex and Doomsday. That conflict ends before the story moves beyond the immediate battle to the family’s future. The change in scale is deliberate: the finale does not end with victory alone, but asks what Clark’s life looks like after he has saved the day.
Why Clark loses his powers and grows old
Clark’s life after the battle follows from the heart transplant that brought him back from his first apparent death. General Sam Lane gave him a human heart. Clark survives, but the return is not a restoration of his former invulnerability: his Kryptonian powers fade, and he ages as a human.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction makes the finale’s two deaths different. The earlier apparent death is reversed through the heart transfer; the later death is the end of Clark’s long life. The showrunners described the season’s arc as their version of the “Death of Superman” story, but the finale turns the familiar superhero premise toward the human experience of living with limits.
What happens to Lois, Clark, and their family
Lois and Clark’s life after the battle
After the danger passes, Smallville gathers at the Kent Farm for Lana Lang and John Henry Irons’s wedding. Clark’s voiceover carries the story beyond that day and into the years he and Lois share. They use their public standing to help others, including raising money and opening hospitals.

Lois dies before Clark
Later in life, Lois’s cancer returns, and she dies before Clark. The finale does not undo her death; it lets the loss remain part of the life the couple built together.
The sons carry the work forward
As adults, the sons continue protecting the world. They marry and have children, and Clark becomes a grandfather. The family’s future shows that the end of Clark’s powers does not mean the end of the Kent family’s service.

Clark’s final years
Clark grows old and eventually dies peacefully with family around him. Before his death, he forgives Lex. The closing reunion with Lois completes the story’s life-spanning arc. The episode offers emotional closure through that reunion, but it does not provide a detailed explanation of an afterlife.

The battle gives way to ordinary relationships because the finale treats those relationships as the measure of Clark’s life. Co-showrunner Brent Fletcher described the intended emphasis as “family, hope and friends,” and framed the ending with a question: “Death is a fact of life, but what if you tell the story of life and what it’s worth?” TheWrap’s finale interview and TV Insider’s December 2, 2024 interview discuss that intention.

The result is poignant without suggesting that death is merely a temporary obstacle. Lois dies, and Clark’s final death is peaceful but real. What lasts is the life they shared, the family they raised, the good they did in public, and the sons who continue protecting others. Clark’s forgiveness of Lex adds a final personal resolution without changing the consequences of the conflict.
The voiceover spans decades, but the cited accounts do not establish a precise number of years between Clark’s heart transfer and death. The finale’s point is the shape of his human life, not a stated countdown.
