In “Leverage,” Colter and Russell Shaw join forces to dismantle a coercive network called The Process. The partnership is more than a practical advantage: as the brothers investigate the scheme, they also begin facing unresolved questions about their father. The episode continues the story begun in the Season 3 premiere, “The Process.”
How The Process keeps people trapped
The episode opens with Harith Holmes returning to his family after completing a job for The Process. When another participant fails, the organization threatens Harith’s son and orders him to follow the Shaw brothers. The threat makes the scheme’s method clear: it turns private secrets and fear for loved ones into tools of control.
Colter speaks with Lisa, one of the people targeted by the operation. She explains that The Process used her involvement in a scam against her coworkers and family as leverage. Russell and Reenie Greene are followed, while Raymond Ockman dies in jail under circumstances the characters find suspicious.
Colter and Russell trace the operation
Colter recovers a distinctive briefcase linked to The Process. What is inside connects Ockman to a younger student at the school where he teaches, giving the brothers another lead. Harith first refuses to talk, but eventually tells them that participants can be summoned at any time and that, as he understands it, the scheme has been operating for at least a decade.

To help Harith reach his son, Colter and Russell fake Russell’s death. The ruse gives the brothers a way to move the investigation forward while showing how much they trust one another: Colter is no longer trying to solve the case entirely on his own.
The experiment behind The Process
Meanwhile, Reenie and Randy trace the briefcases to retired professor Dr. Susanna Tate. The episode’s account links the operation to an experiment Tate once ran called “The Process of Leverage and Obedience.” Although she ended the study, some students continued it. The scheme has outgrown its academic origins into a system that identifies and pressures people through their vulnerabilities.

Colter and Russell investigate the compound where the operation is running. Russell shoots Philip Jost in self-defense, and Colter confronts Don Schneider. Schneider reveals that the computer system can identify targets without his continued involvement, making clear that removing one person would not necessarily stop the operation.
What the brothers stop—and what remains unresolved
The brothers destroy the computer system. Federal authorities are pursuing Gillian Meeks, but the episode does not establish that the threat ends everywhere: its closing concern is that similar experiments could exist elsewhere. The immediate operation has been disrupted; the larger possibility remains open.

That unresolved danger parallels the Shaw family story. Russell offers to help Colter pursue a government number connected to their father’s work. Colter is not ready to talk with their mother, Mary Dove Shaw, but the brothers agree that the family questions cannot be avoided forever. Their teamwork in the case makes the episode’s point about Colter plain: he does not have to be a lone wolf.
Reenie’s personal thread
Reenie is still shaken by the near-death events of the previous season and has broken up with Elliot. Her conversation with Russell gives the episode a quieter emotional thread alongside the investigation, connecting the characters through what they have endured rather than through the conspiracy alone.
