Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 makes a strong case that the series deserved a longer life: it gives its young crew a full 20-episode story and places their growth at the center of a larger Star Trek adventure. The title’s Paramount+ question needs one qualification, though: the season’s U.S. premiere was on Netflix, not Paramount+.
Does Season 2 deserve the frustration behind the question?
Yes—as a judgment about the show’s value, not as a claim about the precise streaming deal. Season 2 is an ambitious continuation of a series built around young characters finding their place in a vast franchise. Its appeal rests on whether that crew’s choices and development carry the story, rather than on familiar names and references alone.
That distinction matters to the “How could Paramount+ let this show go?” framing. The available release information establishes that Netflix premiered Season 2 in the United States and select countries; it does not establish the behind-the-scenes decisions or contractual circumstances that led to that distribution. The title works as an expression of regret about the series’ fate, but it should not be read as a documented account of who made which business decision.

A season-sized arc
All 20 episodes premiered together on July 1, 2024, in the United States and select countries on Netflix, according to Paramount Press Express. That scale gives the season room to build beyond a single adventure. The key test for viewers is whether the serial story makes the crew’s changing responsibilities feel earned, and whether its resolution rewards attention across the run.

Franchise connections with a purpose
For established Star Trek fans, familiar connections can make the young crew’s journey feel like part of a larger universe. They work best when they sharpen the central characters’ dilemmas, rather than simply supplying recognition. Newcomers can approach the season through the crew’s relationships and choices; knowing the whole franchise is not the only reason to watch.
A useful entry point, with a caveat
The season’s young protagonists make its central concerns—belonging, responsibility, and learning to lead—accessible to viewers who may not have followed every Star Trek series. But an entry point is not the same as a standalone story: Season 2 continues an established series, so viewers looking for the full character journey should begin with Season 1.

Where did Season 2 premiere, and where can you watch it?
Distribution has varied by territory and time. The July 2024 Netflix premiere is a dated launch fact, not proof of current streaming availability. StarTrek.com’s launch announcement described Netflix distribution globally with regional exclusions, and said Season 2 was expected later on SkyShowtime in several European territories where Season 1 was available. That announcement does not establish today’s catalog in any country. A 2025 GamesRadar+ report quoted the Hagemans on anticipated Netflix license expiry dates; it likewise cannot confirm what is streaming now.
Check the service listings for your country before subscribing or planning a rewatch. For an alternative to streaming, StarTrek.com has also announced Season 2 home-release formats including Blu-ray, DVD, and digital. Check the current regional edition and retailer listing to confirm the complete 20-episode season and available languages or subtitles.

Verdict
Season 2 is worth championing for the scale of its story and the chance it gives its young crew to grow within Star Trek. That makes the show’s uncertain streaming future frustrating; it does not prove Paramount+ alone “let it go.” The most accurate case for the title’s feeling is simpler: a series with room to develop its characters and welcome new viewers deserved the chance to continue.
