Skye Riley dies onstage during her concert. The apparent rescue plan involving Morris is part of the film’s hallucination-heavy misdirection, not a successful escape. The ending leaves a larger question open: the crowd witnesses her death, but the film does not confirm how many people—if any beyond the next selected host—inherit the curse.
How the curse reaches Skye
Smile 2 begins by connecting its story to the first film. Joel, infected after witnessing Rose’s death, tries to pass the entity on through a staged killing. The attempt does not go as planned: Joel dies, and Lewis Fregoli, the surviving witness, becomes the next host.
Skye encounters Lewis and witnesses his death. That makes her the entity’s next target. She is also trying to rebuild her career and prepare for a world tour while living with the consequences of her past. Those pressures shape her experience of the story, but they are not established as rules that control how the curse works.

Why Morris does not save Skye
For a time, Skye appears to have a plan with Morris to stop the entity by interrupting her bodily functions. The sequence seems to offer a way out, but the film repeatedly makes Skye’s perception unreliable. Its reversal reveals that the apparent rescue and escape do not happen as a successful intervention in objective reality.
The story returns to the concert. Skye is there, performing before an audience, and the ending shows her death onstage. The Morris sequence should therefore be read as part of the entity’s manipulation of Skye’s perception, not proof that she survives.

Who dies, and who is left at the end?
| Character or group | What the ending establishes |
|---|---|
| Skye Riley | Dies at her concert after the apparent rescue is exposed as misdirection. |
| Joel | Dies in the opening sequence after his attempt to transfer the curse fails. |
| Lewis Fregoli | Dies by suicide after becoming infected; his death brings the curse to Skye. |
| Morris | His apparent role in Skye’s rescue is not evidence that he successfully stops the entity. The film’s hallucinations reframe that sequence. |
| The concert audience | Witnesses Skye’s death. The film does not establish who, or how many people, become the next host or hosts. |
Does the curse spread to the whole concert crowd?
The crowd gives the ending its unsettling final implication: Skye’s death is witnessed by far more people than the earlier deaths in the chain. But an implication is not a confirmed transmission rule. The film does not say that every concertgoer becomes infected, whether the entity selects one witness, or how it would act when many people see the same death.
What is clear is the sequence the film has shown up to that point: Joel’s failed transfer leaves Lewis as the next host, and Lewis’s death exposes Skye. The audience’s future is unresolved.

What the ending says about fame
One reading is that the finale turns Skye’s public image into part of the horror. She is a pop star preparing for a world tour, and a private crisis becomes a spectacle witnessed by a crowd. Paramount’s official film page frames her story around the pressures of fame; the Associated Press review likewise discusses the film’s celebrity and performance dimension. That is a thematic interpretation, not confirmation that fame changes the entity’s supernatural rules.
The film runs 127 minutes and is rated R, according to the Associated Press review published in 2024.
