Shrinking returns for a 12-episode second season that more confidently brings its comedy and emotional storytelling together. It remains a comedy about grief, relationships, and therapy—not a claim that therapy fixes everything—and at least one persistent weakness keeps it from feeling wholly renewed.
What season two is about
Jason Segel and Harrison Ford lead the series, co-created by Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein. Its focus on therapy gives the comedy a natural source of awkward candor, while grief and strained relationships give those conversations real emotional stakes. The season’s appeal lies in moving between those registers rather than treating the funny moments as an escape from the painful ones.
That balance is the central question for a season-two review: can the show make its characters’ vulnerability funny without making their pain feel trivial? RogerEbert.com’s reviewer sees the season as a stronger realization of the show’s comic and emotional ambitions. In that reviewer’s assessment, the series is also attentive to therapy’s limits while recognizing its value. This is one critic’s view, not evidence of a wider consensus.
Does the comedy and emotion work?
More often than not, season two’s comedy and feeling reinforce each other. Humor lets the characters expose their defenses and missteps; the emotional material gives those jokes consequence. The result is a more assured blend than the show had established in its first season, according to the RogerEbert.com review.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The qualification matters: that same review says some first-season flaws remain. The season’s stronger balance does not erase those weaknesses, so viewers who found the earlier run uneven should not expect a complete reset. The improvement is in how confidently the series handles its core combination, not in a guarantee that every part of the show has been solved.

A season built around imperfect help
The show’s therapy premise works best when help is portrayed as a relationship, not a magic solution. The critical framing in RogerEbert.com’s season-two review recognizes both sides: therapy can have limits, yet still matter. That tension fits a comedy about people attempting to show up for one another while carrying grief and making mistakes.
Apple’s description of the episode “Fortress of Solitude” offers one concrete example of the season’s entangled personal and practical stakes: Jimmy reconnects with an estranged friend to help Sean out of legal trouble, while trying to keep it from Paul. The official description establishes that setup; it does not need embellishment to show how friendship, responsibility, and secrecy can collide in this story.

Is Shrinking season two worth watching?
If the series’ mix of sharp comedy and sincere emotional material appealed to you, season two has a stronger command of that combination. If its first-season weaknesses were a deal-breaker, the critical case for improvement comes with the explicit caveat that some of them persist. The season’s most persuasive achievement is a more confident balance—not a wholesale reinvention.
