Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteAfter Catherine O’Hara died on January 30, 2026, at age 71, her Schitt’s Creek co-stars remembered her as a singular comic talent and a generous colleague. Dan Levy, Eugene Levy and Annie Murphy shared tributes in the first days after her death; other cast members followed, and Dan Levy and Murphy later honored her at the 2026 Emmy Awards.
What did the cast say after Catherine O’Hara’s death?
O’Hara played Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek, which ran for six seasons from 2015 to 2020. The cast’s first tributes reflected both that shared work and relationships that stretched back decades. Dan and Eugene Levy each described working with O’Hara for more than 50 years, beginning long before the series.
Dan Levy remembered a bond beyond the series
Dan Levy, who played David Rose and co-created the show, posted a tribute on January 30. He described O’Hara as extended family after years of collaboration with his father, Eugene Levy. “What a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years,” he wrote. TV Insider reported the tribute and its context.
Eugene Levy recalled more than 50 years of friendship and work
Eugene Levy, who played Johnny Rose, said he had known and worked with O’Hara for more than 50 years, from Second City and SCTV through their films and six years on Schitt’s Creek. He said he cherished their friendship. “Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today,” he said in a statement reported January 31 by TV Insider.

Which other cast members paid tribute?
Tributes also came from Sarah Levy, Jennifer Robertson, Tim Rozon and Emily Hampshire. Their recollections emphasized O’Hara’s warmth as much as her talent. Those descriptions are the performers’ own recollections, not a claim that a comic legend’s public persona tells the whole story. Together, they show how castmates spoke about the person they knew alongside the distinctive Moira Rose audiences watched.
How did the tributes continue at the 2026 Emmys?
The remembrance continued at the Emmy ceremony on September 14, 2026, in a segment reported the next day by the Associated Press. Macaulay Culkin joined Dan Levy and Annie Murphy in honoring O’Hara. Culkin called her “our mama,” while Murphy recalled the public’s shared grief and joy.

Levy’s remarks tied O’Hara’s creativity to choices that helped make Moira memorable, including her wigs and styling. He urged people to say yes to her ideas: “Say yes to the concept of a wig wall. Say yes to her asking to wear a wig as a hat. Say yes to her naming that wig.” The Emmy tribute was a later public remembrance, distinct from the cast’s immediate statements after her death.
