Anderson has called Arthur’s story ending powerful, though he also said he would have preferred the series to continue for a couple more seasons. Creator Steven Knight said the film’s story dictated its cast and required Tommy Shelby to carry out an act he could not forgive himself for.
Is Paul Anderson in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man?
No. Anderson, the actor behind Arthur Shelby in the six-season television series, does not physically appear in the film. Netflix describes The Immortal Man as a continuation of the saga; its listed cast includes Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck, Jay Lycurgo and Barry Keoghan. Anderson is not among the names in that cast list. Netflix Tudum’s film update says the movie is streaming on Netflix; availability may vary by territory.
What happens to Arthur Shelby? Spoilers
Arthur is dead by the time of the film’s story. The Independent reports that a flashback refers to Arthur but does not show Anderson’s face, so it is not a physical appearance by the actor. Arthur’s absence also serves the film’s central emotional conflict: he remains part of Tommy’s guilty conscience. Netflix’s Season 6 finale explainer identifies Anderson as the actor who played Arthur across the series.
What did Anderson say about Arthur’s ending?
In an interview with LADbible published March 6, 2026, Anderson responded to being left out: “Well, what can you do eh? It is how it is. I thought I’d just leave them to it.” He was positive about the direction taken with Arthur, saying: “I think it’s great. I mean, it’s such a powerful thing to do. It’s something you don’t see on TV.” His praise was specifically about Arthur’s storyline, not a blanket endorsement of the whole film. Read the LADbible interview.

He preferred more seasons to a film
Anderson also expressed reservations about continuing the story as a movie. “We made a good show, we ain’t made enough seasons – I think we should’ve just done a couple more seasons. I don’t see a reason to do a film to be honest,” he told LADbible. That is a qualified reaction: he thought Arthur’s ending was powerful while questioning whether the story needed a film rather than more television seasons.
Why did Steven Knight leave Anderson out?
Creator Steven Knight explained that the decision came from the plot, not from a stated judgment about Anderson. As reported by The Independent on March 25, 2026, Knight said: “What I’ll say is that the story determines the cast, and the story was set. I knew that Tommy needed to have done something that he couldn’t forgive himself for.” He added that this drove the plot in that direction, then praised Anderson as “a fantastic actor.” The Independent’s report attributes the absence to the story’s needs; it does not establish a personal dispute or another cause.
