Spoilers for the full first season of No Good Deed. Margo fired the shot that killed Jacob—not Emily. Creator Liz Feldman has said she had ideas for continuing the story, but Netflix had no plans for Season 2 in a report dated July 2, 2025. That report is the latest status established here; it does not confirm what Netflix has decided since.
Who killed Jacob in No Good Deed?
Margo killed Jacob. Emily also fired at the masked figure she thought was an intruder, but Margo’s bullet was fatal. Netflix Tudum’s finale explanation lays out how the two shots and the evidence left behind expose what happened.

Why Margo confronted Jacob
Jacob had been stealing luxury items from neighbors and secretly giving them to Margo, his neighbor and the wife of JD. After Margo rejected him, Jacob took the gifts back and threatened to tell JD about their relationship. Whether the two had a sexual relationship is never settled. Feldman told Tudum, “I want to leave that to the interpretation of the audience.”
How the shooting unfolded
Margo chased Jacob while carrying JD’s gun. Jacob, wearing a ski mask, ran back into his own house. Emily saw what appeared to be an intruder and fired her own weapon; believing she had killed her brother, she carried the weight of that guilt. Margo had fired too, and her bullet killed Jacob. The different casings help distinguish the weapons: JD’s gun was .40 caliber, while Emily’s was 9 mm. Margo let Emily and the Morgans believe Emily was responsible.

- Terri (Taraji P. Henson) is a devoted wife and mother of two, living an ideal suburban life in Atlanta when Colin (Idris Elba), a charming but dangerous escaped convict, shows up at her door claiming car trouble. Terri offers her phone to help him but soon learns that no good deed goes unpunished as she finds herself fighting for survival when he invades her home and terrorizes her family.
The reveal is not that Emily secretly caused Jacob’s death. It is that her belief she had done so gave Margo’s part in it room to stay hidden. Feldman has described communication—and its absence—as a way people try to protect themselves. In the finale, silence compounds the family’s grief even as the murder mystery is resolved.
Where the characters end up
Leslie and Sarah get the Morgan house and are expecting a boy. The finale frames their move as the start of a family life in a home marked by the Morgans’ loss.
The Morgans and Mikey buy Lydia’s piano back. In the final scene, Emily performs a song made with Jacob’s music, and Lydia returns to playing. It offers a moment of reconnection without suggesting that the family’s grief has simply disappeared.
Margo is arrested, and the central mystery reaches a resolution. Dennis and Carla’s storyline, however, retains a secret about the money behind their plans, leaving one thread that could support further story. TVLine’s finale recap also notes the arrest and the characters’ closing turns.

What Liz Feldman has said about a possible Season 2
Feldman expressed creative interest in a continuation, but her comments were not a renewal announcement. In a December 2024 TVLine interview, she said, “I have some pretty fun plans for a Season 2,” while noting that it was early and she still needed to talk with Netflix. The TVLine interview reported at the time that the series had not been officially renewed.
In a separate December 2024 interview, Feldman told the Los Angeles Times, “I have a pretty clear idea of where I want to take Season 2 and I think it’s pretty fun and unexpected. I can’t wait to share it with Netflix.” That describes her plans as a creator, not a Netflix order. The Los Angeles Times interview contains her remarks.

Has Netflix renewed No Good Deed for Season 2?
No renewal is established by the sources cited here. TVLine reported on July 2, 2025, that Netflix had no plans for a second season at that time. The report is more than a year old as of October 2026, so it should be read as a dated status—not proof of Netflix’s present position. No later authoritative update is established here. See TVLine’s July 2, 2025 report.
TVLine also mentioned a theoretical anthology approach, with a new cast, as a possible way the series could return. That was not an announced plan. A direct continuation with the existing characters and a new-cast anthology are different possibilities, but neither is confirmed.

Where to watch Season 1
Netflix’s official No Good Deed page lists the 2024 series, its eight episodes, and trailers. Netflix describes it as a dark comedy about three families competing to buy a 1920s Spanish-style villa in Los Feliz, where sellers Lydia and Paul Morgan’s family secrets are tied to the death of their son Jacob. The series is rated TV-MA on the title page.
