Reinhold’s tribute continued: “Forty years of laughs on screen and off. John LIVED his life!” He called Ashton “My brother, my partner, my Sarge – I love you,” and added, “There’s no smoking in Heaven, John.”
Why did Reinhold call him “my Sarge”?
It was an affectionate reference to their roles in the Beverly Hills Cop films. Ashton played Sergeant John Taggart, while Reinhold played Detective Billy Rosewood. The Associated Press explained that Rosewood called Taggart “Sarge”; Reinhold’s tribute made the nickname personal by using it for his longtime co-star.
