In an April 30, 2024 Associated Press interview, Lipa said she and her collaborators wrote “Illusion” on the first day of a session and “Happy for You” on the second. Discussing the latter, she said, “I’d never written a song like that before,” and added, “And I loved that version of myself.” Those comments were about writing the song, not remarks made during the SNL broadcast.
