But it will not go the distance as an ongoing series: Netflix cancelled it after its eight-episode first season in October 2024. Whether that season is worth watching depends on how much you value its premise and character work over the promise of a continuing story.
What is KAOS about?
Created by Charlie Covell, KAOS relocates Greek mythology to a contemporary setting. Netflix describes it as a darkly comic reimagining concerned with gender politics, power and life in the underworld. Jeff Goldblum plays Zeus, with Janet McTeer and David Thewlis among the other stars. The series uses familiar mythic figures and ideas as the basis for a story about authority and the people caught beneath it, rather than presenting a straightforward retelling of ancient tales.
That modern frame gives the show room to make old stories feel politically immediate. Its appeal is not limited to recognizing names from mythology: the central draw is seeing those archetypes placed in a world shaped by contemporary power struggles. Netflix’s official title page lists Covell as creator and the three actors among the stars.
Does the first season deliver?
The season’s ambition is also its structural risk. There are many players and intersecting strands to establish, and TIME’s review found that the first half takes time to introduce them. TIME nevertheless called the series enjoyable and praised Covell’s adaptation of mythic archetypes. That is one critic’s assessment, not a measure of universal response, but it captures the tension: the world-building can be part of the pleasure while delaying the sense that the plot has fully come together.

The ending sharpens that tension. TIME felt the finale could play like a preface to another season. That may suit viewers who enjoy an expansive setup, but it is a less satisfying shape for anyone expecting the season to resolve into a self-contained story. The critical case for watching is strongest if you are willing to spend time with an ensemble and its myth-inspired world even when the payoff feels oriented toward what might have followed.
Is KAOS cancelled, and does it have a season two?
Yes, KAOS was cancelled after one season. Variety reported the decision on October 9, 2024; no season two is forthcoming as announced. The released season has eight episodes, all listed as streaming on Netflix by Netflix Tudum. Availability can vary by country, so the listing does not guarantee access in every region.

There is a historical reason some episode counts may differ: Netflix’s original 2018 commissioning announcement described an order of ten episodes. That was the planned order at the time, not the final released count. The current Netflix catalogue lists eight.
What do the viewing figures tell us?
Variety reported that KAOS reached 5.9 million Netflix views in its second week and spent four weeks in Netflix’s English-language TV Top 10. Those are launch-window figures, not an explanation for the cancellation. Netflix’s internal renewal criteria and the reason it chose not to continue the series have not been established by the reporting cited here. The figures show that the show found a place in the chart; they do not prove why it ended.

Is KAOS worth watching?
It is a reasonable choice if contemporary, darkly comic myth-making and an ambitious ensemble are more important to you than a fully closed ending. The first season offers a distinct premise and performances from a prominent cast, while the pacing and finale may leave viewers wanting the continuation that will not arrive.
For a documentary-focused audience, the key distinction is that KAOS is a scripted mythological reimagining, not a factual account or documentary about Greek religion and history. Netflix’s series guide describes its contemporary twist on Greek mythology. If you want a concluded narrative, the cancellation and the finale’s setup-like quality are reasons to approach it cautiously; if you are content to watch an imaginative first season on its own terms, the premise may be enough to make it worthwhile.
