Morena Baccarin has said she wants to play Vanessa Carlysle as Copycat, her shapeshifting identity in Marvel Comics. That is the actor expressing interest—not Marvel confirming that the character will appear in a future Deadpool film.
What Morena Baccarin said about playing Copycat
While promoting Elevation in 2024, Baccarin spoke with ComicBook about the possibility of taking Vanessa further into the character’s comic-book identity. First Curiosity’s November 3, 2024 account of that interview quotes her saying, “I have only been waiting like five years,” followed by: “I’m not getting any younger or skinnier, so now is the time.” Read First Curiosity’s report.

The remarks convey Baccarin’s enthusiasm and a playful sense that the opportunity has been a long time coming. They are not an official statement from Marvel Studios, and they do not establish that a role or storyline has been offered.
Who is Copycat, and how does she connect to Vanessa?
Baccarin plays Vanessa Carlysle, Wade Wilson’s partner, in the Deadpool films. In Marvel Comics, Vanessa is also known as Copycat, a mutant shapeshifter who works as a mercenary. The film characterization and the comics identity are related, but they are not interchangeable: the movies have not yet shown Vanessa using Copycat’s shapeshifting abilities. That difference is what makes Baccarin’s wish noteworthy. Bringing Copycat into the films could give Vanessa abilities and a role beyond what audiences have seen on screen so far. But the possibility remains a character direction, not a confirmed development.
Has Marvel confirmed that Vanessa will become Copycat?
No confirmation appears in the available reporting. A November 2024 account said Marvel Studios had not announced Deadpool 4 at that time; that dated report does not establish the franchise’s status in October 2026. Nor does Baccarin’s interview, by itself, confirm a future appearance or plot. CBR’s syndicated coverage also framed the story around her interest in playing Copycat.

So the accurate takeaway is specific: Baccarin wants to portray Copycat, and the comics give Vanessa that identity. Whether Marvel will bring it into a film—and when—has not been confirmed by the reporting cited here.

Vanessa has been an important part of the Deadpool films through her relationship with Wade. A comic-book story that reveals or develops her Copycat abilities could shift the focus toward her own powers and choices. That is a plausible adaptation possibility, not evidence of Marvel’s plans.

- Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake yet. His days as Deadpool behind him, a listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. But when his homeworld is threatened, he reluctantly suits up as he tries to convince Wolverine? oh hell, just watch. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
For readers who want to explore the comics version, a Deadpool collection featuring Copycat is a natural place to look. Specific volumes, editions, and current retailer listings are not established here, so check the contents of a collection before buying.
