James Gunn’s Superman unveiled its first poster on December 16, 2024, with a teaser trailer premiere announced for December 19 at 6 a.m. Pacific (9 a.m. Eastern). Both dates are now past: DC confirmed the teaser’s release on December 19, 2024, and the film’s then-announced theatrical date was July 11, 2025.
What the first poster showed
The poster carried the words “Look Up” and depicted David Corenswet’s Superman flying skyward. TheWrap reported that the image was lightly animated. Warner Bros. shared it on December 16, 2024, alongside the teaser announcement and a pointer to DC Studios’ Fan First updates. TheWrap’s December 16 report covered the poster and announcement.
When the teaser was scheduled to premiere
The teaser was announced for Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 6 a.m. Pacific Time, or 9 a.m. Eastern Time. Good Morning America’s report gave the scheduled times and described a preceding promotional clip: Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane looks upward in a newsroom before a brief shot of Superman in flight. DC later confirmed the teaser’s release in its December 19, 2024 coverage.
The film behind the announcement
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman stars Corenswet as Superman and Clark Kent, Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult. DC’s December 19, 2024 article listed July 11, 2025, as the film’s theatrical release date; that date has passed. The article also quoted Gunn describing the film’s moral center: “It’s a movie about kindness. It’s a movie about being good.”
