The six-episode, TV-MA limited series adapts Alice Feeney’s novel, with Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal in the lead roles. Its central hook is not simply who committed the crime, but whose account deserves your trust.
What is His & Hers about?
Anna and Jack are separated, but the investigation pulls their lives back into contact. Anna approaches the murder as a reporter; Jack approaches it as the detective on the case. Their professional roles put them on different sides of the inquiry, while their estrangement makes every exchange feel personal. Netflix’s premise makes the tension plain: each spouse suspects the other.
That setup gives the series two built-in sources of uncertainty. The investigation has facts to uncover, but the people interpreting those facts have histories and interests of their own. The question of whom to trust is therefore part of the mystery’s structure, not just a promotional tagline.
Does the premise make for an addictive thriller?
The format is well suited to a concentrated mystery: six episodes, one murder case, and two central characters whose accounts cannot be taken at face value. Anna’s reporting and Jack’s police work also offer distinct routes into the same events. That is a strong engine for suspense, though a premise alone cannot guarantee that the reveals or pacing land. Viewers looking for a compact, twist-oriented crime story will know what kind of experience the series is offering; the key question is whether they enjoy being kept uncertain about both the case and the marriage.

How does the Netflix series relate to the book?
His & Hers adapts Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name. The book is a natural next step for viewers who want to explore the story in prose, but the available adaptation information establishes the relationship—not specific changes to plot, characterization, point of view or the timing of revelations. Those comparisons require reading the novel alongside the series rather than assuming the screen version reproduces it scene for scene.
