What was announced about Tristan Rogers’s diagnosis?
On July 17, 2025, Rogers’s representative announced that he had cancer. The statement said he was working with his medical team on a treatment plan and asked for privacy for him and his family. TVLine reported that the announcement did not identify the cancer type; Soap Opera Digest reported that Rogers’s friend and publicist, Anthony Turk, conveyed the release.

The representative said: “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family.” The statement added: “Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.” These were statements carried in entertainment reporting, not a detailed account from a treating clinician.
What type of cancer did Tristan Rogers have?
The July 17 announcement did not specify the type. In its August 15, 2025 report on Rogers’s death, the Associated Press said a July appearance on General Hospital revealed that he had lung cancer. That later reporting supplies the cancer type; it should not be confused with what was disclosed in the initial announcement.

What happened to Tristan Rogers?
The Associated Press reported that Rogers died at age 79 in August 2025, less than a month after his July appearance on General Hospital. The announcement of his diagnosis and treatment plan had come the previous month. The public statements do not provide further details about his treatment or prognosis.

Rogers originated Robert Scorpio in 1980. Introduced as an international spy, Scorpio later became Port Charles’s district attorney and a long-running fixture on the soap. Rogers played him on and off over the years, including a more recent stint from 2019 to 2024.

Rogers also appeared on The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful and Studio City. The Associated Press reported that his performance in Studio City earned him the Daytime Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a digital drama series.
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini said, as quoted by the Associated Press: “The entire ‘General Hospital’ family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing.” He added: “Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio).”
