Frasier ends with a choice, not a confirmed reunion. He accepts a job that appears to take him to San Francisco, but the final reveal puts him in Chicago, where Charlotte lives. He has decided to pursue her; the original finale stops before showing how she responds.
Where does Frasier go at the end?
In the two-part series finale, “Goodnight, Seattle,” Frasier initially accepts a better-paying radio job in San Francisco, expanded to include a television spot. After his father moves out and Niles and Daphne settle into life with their newborn, Frasier is left alone in his apartment and begins to reckon with his loneliness. The job offers a new career chapter, but it does not address what he wants personally.
The finale aired on May 13, 2004. Paramount+’s episode listing presents the episode as Frasier saying goodbye to the friends and family who shaped his eleven years in Seattle.
After his final KACL sign-off, “Goodnight, Seattle,” the plane carrying Frasier lands in Chicago, not San Francisco. He tells the psychiatrist seated beside him that he would regret not taking a chance with Charlotte. The destination reveals his decision: he is going to find her.

Does Frasier end up with Charlotte?
The original finale does not show Charlotte’s reaction or confirm that she welcomes him back. Earlier in the story, they sleep together shortly before she leaves for Chicago. Frasier’s arrival makes clear that he wants to pursue the relationship, but the reunion itself—and whether it works—is left unresolved.
That distinction is the key to the ending: Frasier’s choice is definite; the romantic outcome is not. The finale closes on hope and risk rather than a guaranteed happy couple.

What happens to the rest of the Seattle family?
Frasier’s decision comes as the people closest to him move into new phases of their lives:
- Martin marries Ronee.
- Niles and Daphne welcome their son, David.
- Roz is named station manager at KACL.
These milestones give the goodbye its emotional context. Frasier watches his family and friends take steps into new lives, then recognizes that he wants change too. His choice is not simply a career move to another city; it is a personal gamble made after success and independence have failed to settle his loneliness.

Is “a happy ending for all” really accurate?
It is accurate as a description of the ensemble’s new beginnings, but not as a claim that every future is settled. Martin, Niles and Daphne, and Roz each receive a concrete milestone. Frasier takes action toward Charlotte, but the show does not tell viewers whether she accepts him. The ending is optimistic without pretending that every uncertainty has been resolved.

The revival is a later coda, not part of the original finale. Paramount’s series description frames it as Frasier’s next chapter after he returns to Boston. In its review of the 2023 revival, TIME reports that Frasier stayed in Chicago with Charlotte for years, before their relationship and his television show ended.

That later account confirms that the original finale’s Chicago choice did lead to a relationship. It also makes clear that the relationship was not permanent. The revival supplies information the 2004 finale deliberately withheld, without changing what the original ending showed at the time: Frasier chose to go to Charlotte, and viewers were left not knowing how she would respond.
