In a May 4, 2024 interview with TV Insider, Stephanie Arcila described her character’s response as unresolved: “I think she’s still processing. I think it can go either way.”
A reunion Gabriela wasn’t ready to have
Gabriela had expected time to think about what she wanted to say to Roberta. She planned to see her mother at the wedding, giving herself a chance to approach their reunion on her own terms. Instead, Roberta turns up at the Firefighters’ Ball, bringing their difficult history into Gabriela’s present without that preparation.
That difference matters to Arcila’s reading of the scene. The return may open a door, but it is not the careful, considered conversation Gabriela had imagined. Roberta also speaks with Jake, Diego, and Bode. Arcila calls that a boundary crossing: “It’s definitely a big boundary that she’s crossed.” For Gabriela, the problem is not simply that her mother is back; it is that Roberta has entered several important relationships before Gabriela has decided how to handle her own.
Healing is possible, but distance is too
Arcila does not describe Gabriela as having made up her mind. She is still processing and could try to repair the relationship—or love her mother from a distance. Beneath the hurt, Arcila sees Gabriela as subconsciously open to healing. That openness does not mean she is ready to forgive Roberta or resume a close relationship; it means the possibility has not been shut off.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The tension is what makes the reunion difficult to read as either a clean reconciliation or a final break. Gabriela wants to heal, Arcila says, and that effort is precisely why Roberta’s actions hurt. The episode leaves Gabriela with a choice rather than a settled answer.
Roberta’s return puts Gabriela’s past and future together
Arcila says the encounter brings several parts of Gabriela’s life into view at once: her mother and father, her history with Jake and Bode, and the future she is planning with her fiancé, Diego. The reunion therefore presses on more than one unresolved feeling. Gabriela has to face her family past while considering what kind of family life she wants next.

Diego represents the stability Gabriela wants
In Arcila’s interpretation, Gabriela’s attraction to Diego is connected to her desire for a family and a stable home. That gives her plans with him real emotional weight: they reflect a future Gabriela wants, not just a convenient alternative to her past.
Her feelings for Bode have not disappeared
Arcila also says Gabriela still loves Bode. She describes a private tension in which Gabriela wishes the future she imagines with Diego could instead be with Bode. The two feelings coexist: Gabriela’s longing for stability helps explain her connection to Diego, while her love for Bode remains part of her emotional life.
