Spoilers for the Season 2 finale, “I Do.” Bode does not stop Gabriela and Diego’s wedding. After seeing Manny, he decides not to interfere, but the episode cuts away before Gabriela and Diego’s vows are completed. Showrunner Tia Napolitano called the unanswered question a cliffhanger intended to carry into Season 3.
What happens at Gabriela and Diego’s wedding?
Bode arrives at the wedding after getting out of prison with the impulse to intervene. But after encountering Manny, he leaves rather than take the decision out of Gabriela’s hands. The episode does not show whether Gabriela says “I do,” so it does not establish whether she and Diego are married.
In a TVLine interview published May 17, 2024, Napolitano said the writers considered having Bode break up the ceremony. She explained that he sees Gabriela might be happy with Diego and feels it would be selfish to take that possibility from her. His imagined alternative, she clarified, was to ask Gabriela what she truly wanted—not simply sweep her away.
“He puts other people, and her especially, above himself and represses the urge, which I felt was so much more interesting.”

Napolitano described the missing vows as deliberate, telling TV Guide on May 17, 2024: “It is a cliffhanger, my friend. We’ll get those answers in Season 3.” That was her explanation at the time; the finale itself leaves Gabriela’s choice unresolved.
Why is Manny taken away?
After walking Gabriela down the aisle, Manny is taken away by authorities. TV Guide reported that the assault charge followed his punching Luke at the firefighter benefit. Napolitano said Manny wanted Gabriela to have the memory and photographs of her father escorting her, and that he planned to turn himself in.

What other stories does the finale set up?
Bode wants to become a firefighter
Bode tells Luke he wants to work as a full-time firefighter. In the May 2024 TV Guide interview, Napolitano described his release as a chance to explore ordinary freedom and more joy, while keeping Three Rock inmates involved in calls. She also said the show could continue developing Eve’s leadership and the program’s role.
Jake learns Rick may be Gen’s father
Jake learns that Rick may be Gen’s biological father. Napolitano characterized the revelation as an emotional blow for Jake and a test of whether the characters believe people with criminal pasts can change. The finale establishes the claim as a new source of conflict, not a settled account of what comes next.

Sharon plans to reclaim her job
Sharon tells Luke she intends to take her job back. Napolitano said the story would test that confidence against institutional realities, including whether CAL FIRE responds to characters changing positions.
Vince’s recovery
In the May 17, 2024 TVLine interview, Napolitano said Vince’s surgery was curative and that he would return to the fire station quickly. That statement reflects her plan at the time of the interview, rather than a claim about later series developments.

What did the showrunner say about Season 3?
Napolitano described the planned season as a “season of wish fulfillment” for Bode: his release could let the character experience freedoms and ordinary parts of life that other characters already know. She also said Three Rock inmates would remain part of the storytelling, including on calls. These were plans discussed in May 2024, not confirmation of how every thread ultimately plays out.
The finale leaves several questions open: Gabriela’s decision, Bode’s path toward firefighting, Manny’s next steps after turning himself in, Jake’s response to Rick’s claim, and Sharon’s effort to reclaim her position. The wedding question is the most immediate cliffhanger, but the episode does not answer it.
