Spoilers for Descendants: The Rise of Red. Red and Chloe change the past to prevent Bridget from becoming the cruel Queen of Hearts. Their intervention leaves Bridget kind and Cinderella safe, but Uma’s warning makes clear that changing time may have consequences. Those consequences lead directly into Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, which premiered in July 2026 and is already available.
What happens at the end of The Rise of Red?
Red and Chloe travel into the past and intervene in the event that would have sent Bridget down the path to becoming the Queen of Hearts. In the revised present, Bridget is kind and Cinderella is safe. The immediate conflict is resolved, but the girls have changed the course of time.
Uma’s closing warning about the consequences of altering time signals that the change may cause trouble beyond the original crisis. The ending is hopeful for Bridget and Cinderella, but it does not establish that the altered timeline is free of risk.
What does the ending mean?
The clearest interpretation is that Red and Chloe improve the outcome for Bridget and Cinderella while creating a new problem through their time-travel intervention. Disney’s official sequel announcement frames the next story around those consequences, without spelling out every detail of the time-travel mechanics. Disney’s announcement describes the stakes as: “There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.”

That warning is a bridge to the next installment, not confirmation that the characters have undone every danger their intervention might cause.
Is there a sequel to The Rise of Red?
Yes. Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is the direct sequel and fifth installment in the franchise. It premiered on Disney Channel on July 16, 2026, then on Disney+ on July 17. Disney’s release announcement says that changing the past created a new villain, Maddox Hatter. After he captures the Queen of Hearts, Red and Chloe gather allies to rescue her and save Wonderland.

So the sequel takes Uma’s warning seriously: the changed past has consequences, and the next story turns those consequences into a new threat.

Disney also greenlit Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story in August 2026, expanding the wider franchise universe. Disney’s announcement does not establish that it directly continues Red and Chloe’s story, so it is distinct from the confirmed Wicked Wonderland sequel.
