Captain America: Brave New World earned about $415.1 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. That is well below the $1.152 billion reported for Captain America: Civil War, which introduced Black Panther and Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the $1.334 billion for Black Panther’s solo film. The comparisons are useful, but they are not interchangeable: Civil War was an ensemble movie, while Black Panther was a standalone title.
How much did Brave New World make worldwide?
The Numbers lists Captain America: Brave New World (2025) at $415,101,577 worldwide, including $200,500,001 domestic and an $88,842,603 opening weekend. These are nominal lifetime-gross figures, not adjusted for inflation. Box-office databases can revise totals; the figures here are The Numbers’ reported amounts. The Numbers’ Captain America franchise table supplies the comparable totals.
The opening-weekend figure is not the same as the final worldwide gross. The Associated Press reported on February 16, 2025, that the film had taken in an estimated $88.5 million in North America over its opening weekend. Disney projected $192.4 million globally through the Presidents’ Day holiday. Those were early estimates, not final lifetime totals. The AP’s opening-weekend report provides that contemporaneous context.
Which MCU superhero introduction earned more?
Captain America: Civil War introduced Black Panther and Spider-Man
The Numbers lists Captain America: Civil War (2016) at $1,151,899,586 worldwide, roughly 2.8 times Brave New World’s reported total. It is a relevant comparison if “superhero introduction” means the MCU debut of characters: Black Panther and Spider-Man both appeared in Civil War. But the $1.152 billion belongs to the entire ensemble film; it cannot be attributed to either character’s introduction alone. The Numbers’ franchise table reports both films’ totals.

- As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Black Panther had the larger solo-film total
If the comparison is instead a superhero’s first solo MCU film, Black Panther (2018) is the clearer benchmark. The Numbers reports its worldwide gross at $1,334,157,082, about 3.2 times Brave New World’s total. This is a separate comparison from Civil War: the solo-film gross reflects the whole movie, not just the character’s debut. The Numbers’ MCU franchise table lists the title’s reported total.
At a glance: the reported worldwide grosses
| Film | Release year | Worldwide gross | What it represents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Captain America: Brave New World | 2025 | $415,101,577 | Captain America film; total reported by The Numbers |
| Captain America: Civil War | 2016 | $1,151,899,586 | Ensemble film featuring the MCU debuts of Black Panther and Spider-Man |
| Black Panther | 2018 | $1,334,157,082 | Black Panther’s solo film |
All totals in the table are nominal and come from The Numbers’ franchise histories: Captain America and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Comparing totals from one database avoids mixing different reporting methods, though published box-office totals may change as databases update.

What the comparison does—and does not—show
Brave New World’s reported worldwide gross is lower than both benchmarks. That establishes the box-office gap, not why it exists. The totals alone do not isolate the effect of a character’s introduction, the cast, the wider franchise, or any other factor. The fairest wording is that Civil War and Black Panther each earned more as films—not that one character’s debut itself generated the larger haul.
