Lady Danbury is not leaving Bridgerton: showrunner Jess Brownell says she will return and play a “big part” in Season 5. Her departure at the end of Season 4 is a journey to Sierra Leone, not a permanent exit from the series.
Why Lady Danbury leaves at the end of Season 4
Lady Agatha Danbury asks Queen Charlotte for permission to visit her ancestral home in Sierra Leone, which she has not seen since she was a young girl. The request unsettles Charlotte, who fears losing her closest friend. Netflix Tudum’s Season 4 character recap says the Queen ultimately approves the trip after recognizing that the people she loves can change without their relationship ending.
For Danbury, the journey is also a chance to reconnect with a part of her life left behind. Adjoa Andoh, who plays her, described the trip as a way for Danbury to learn about her childhood home and her origins. In a January 31, 2026, interview with TheWrap, Andoh said, “I anticipate her being in this world still, but with a larger sense of who she is.”
What her return means for Charlotte and Danbury
Brownell told TheWrap on February 27, 2026, that Danbury will be “a big part” of Season 5. She said the Season 4 conflict and separation were intended to “shake up the dynamic” between the two women. Brownell expects Charlotte to see Danbury more as a peer and friend going forward, rather than only as someone in her orbit.
#1 Best Overall
Netflix Tudum says Season 5 begins two years after the Season 4 finale. That time jump gives the series room to show how the friendship has changed; neither the Netflix explainer nor Brownell’s reported comments specify the episode in which Danbury returns.

No. Brownell told TheWrap, “There are always conversations about spinoffs,” but left those decisions to Shonda Rhimes and said her focus is on telling the Bridgerton siblings’ stories. That remark acknowledges discussion, not an announcement that a Lady Danbury series has been approved.
