Sheila Carter’s return on The Bold and the Beautiful hinged on a mistaken identity: Steffy Forrester killed Sheila’s lookalike, Sugar, believing she was Sheila. Kimberlin Brown, who plays Sheila, welcomed the twist, calling the explanation “brilliant” in an interview published April 29, 2024.
How Sheila survived
The show revealed Sheila was alive in its Monday, April 29, 2024 episode, reversing the apparent death viewers had seen in February. In the reported plot explanation, the dead woman was Sugar, a lookalike who had undergone cosmetic surgery to resemble Sheila. Steffy believed she was killing Sheila.
A detail about the body helped Deacon question that conclusion: Sheila had previously cut off one of her toes during an earlier staged death, but the body had ten toes. Deacon and Finn then found Sheila alive in an abandoned building. These details come from a plot recap, not an official episode transcript.
The recap describes Sugar as a former prison warden whom Sheila manipulated into helping her obtain cosmetic surgery. Sugar later escaped and sought revenge, setting up the resemblance that made the mistaken identity possible.

Why Kimberlin Brown called the return “brilliant”
In an Entertainment Weekly interview republished by Yahoo on April 29, 2024, Brown said she was pleased with how the story brought Sheila back. She recalled that head writer Brad Bell called to ask if she would return before the show had settled on the explanation. Her answer was “Absolutely.” Brown said the opportunity was “a dream come true for me.”
After she learned the plan, Brown praised it: “I mean, this is brilliant,” she said, adding, “What a brilliant way to bring me back — I don’t know what he would have come up with otherwise.” She also called Sheila “my happy place” and said of the return, “It definitely has made my year.”

Brown’s view of the audience’s role
Brown credited viewers and fans with helping bring Sheila back, saying: “My fans and the viewers of this show are the reason, if not the biggest reason, that I’m back.” That is Brown’s explanation of the audience’s role; it does not independently establish what led the production team to make the decision.
