The seven singers who advanced on American Idol after the April 20, 2026 episode were Daniel Stallworth, Keyla Richardson, Jordan McCullough, Chris Tungseth, Hannah Harper, Brooks Rosser and Braden Rumfelt. Their reported hometowns do not support the claim that six were from the South: using a common state-based grouping, five were from Southern states. This is a look back at a past round, not the current competition status.
Who made the 2026 American Idol Top 7?
A contemporaneous report published after the April 20 episode named the seven advancing contestants and reported their hometowns. ABC’s episode guide identifies the following week’s April 27 broadcast as the Top 7 episode, themed around Taylor Swift songs.

Were six of the seven contestants from the South?
No—not under the common state-based grouping used here. Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Missouri and North Carolina make five Southern-state hometowns. Minnesota and Maryland are not commonly grouped with the South. The claim that six contestants were from the South is not supported by the reported hometown list.

“The South” does not have one universally used boundary in every context. Missouri’s regional classification can vary, so a precise count should name the states or explain its definition. Even with Missouri included in a broad Southern-state grouping, the count is five, not six.
Where this round fits in the 2026 season
The April 20 episode began with nine contestants; the same contemporaneous report says Lucas Leon and Kyndal Inskeep were eliminated, leaving the seven listed above. ABC’s episode guide identifies the April 27 Taylor Swift episode as the Top 7 round and says America voted live to reveal the Top 5 in the following episode. ABC’s season episode listings show the May 11, 2026 finale. The Top 7 label therefore describes a moment in that season’s past progression.
