Its near-future hook—a test that identifies a person’s soulmate—puts pressure on the bond between longtime friends Simon and Laura, played by Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots. The central question is whether a supposedly objective match can outweigh friendship, timing and choices made over a lifetime.
What is All of You about?
Simon and Laura have been best friends since college. When Laura takes a test that identifies her soulmate, the result complicates feelings the two have never fully expressed. The story follows them over time, with the consequences of their decisions reaching beyond the pair to other people in their lives.
The speculative test supplies the dilemma rather than turning the film into a technical thriller: if a system claims to name your ideal partner, what should that mean for a relationship built through shared history and personal choice? Apple classifies the film as a romantic drama, a useful guide to its emphasis on character and emotion.
How well do Goldstein and Poots work together?
The film depends on the audience believing in both the intimacy of Simon and Laura’s friendship and the feelings beneath it. The Associated Press review praises the leads’ chemistry and singles out Poots’s emotionally exposed performance. That is AP’s assessment, rather than a claim of universal critical agreement, but it points to the performances as a key reason the premise can land as a personal dilemma instead of an abstract thought experiment.

Does the story’s structure make the relationship clear?
Because the story follows Simon and Laura across time, the viewer needs to understand how their lives and feelings have changed between encounters. AP notes that some transitions make the elapsed time difficult to follow. That observation identifies a potential obstacle: when the timeline is not immediately clear, the audience may have to work to place a scene in the characters’ lives before attending to its emotional stakes.
Is All of You worth watching?
It is a strong option for viewers who want a yearning, character-led romance with a speculative premise, especially if lead performances matter more than elaborate science-fiction world-building. The soulmate test poses a familiar but effective question—whether people should trust a prescribed match or the complicated bond they have formed themselves. The film’s appeal rests on how convincingly Simon and Laura’s connection carries that question through the years, while AP’s note about time jumps is worth bearing in mind if you prefer a very clearly signposted timeline.
