Spoilers for the two-part finale, “Follow Me My Friend / To Glory at the End” and “Maiden Mother Crone.” The Witches’ Road Billy and the coven travel is a real magical place—but it exists because Billy unconsciously creates it. Before that, Agatha’s Road was a legend built around a song she used to lure witches and steal their power. At the end, Agatha gives her life to save Billy, returns as a ghost, and joins him in the search for Tommy.
Was the Witches’ Road real?
The finale distinguishes between the old story of the Road and the place Billy and the coven experience. Agatha and her son Nicholas created the Ballad of the Witches’ Road while traveling together. The song did not originally describe a real destination. After Nicholas died, Agatha used other witches’ belief that the ballad promised a path to power to lure covens into attempting the journey, then drained their magic.
When Agatha tries the same scheme with the Westview coven, Billy’s magic unexpectedly manifests the Road. The trials take shape from his powers and from images and objects associated with his bedroom. Showrunner Jac Schaeffer described the Road as not actually real before Billy made it so. Once manifested, however, the journey has real consequences: the coven members suffer real losses. The twist changes the Road’s origin, not the reality of what happens inside it.
Who created the Road—and who is responsible for the deaths?
There are two answers, depending on whether “Road” means the legend or the magical place:

- Agatha and Nicholas created the ballad. It began as a song they made together, not a map to an existing magical route.
- Agatha turned the song into a con. After Nicholas’s death, she exploited witches’ belief in the Road to draw covens into her trap and steal their power.
- Billy manifested the Road the coven actually walks. He does so unintentionally when Agatha attempts to use the old deception on the Westview group.
That distinction matters when judging what happens to the coven. Billy’s power creates the Road and its trials, but Agatha has already planned to drain the witches. The finale does not make Billy solely responsible for every death; it separates his accidental magic from Agatha’s deliberate scheme.
What happened to Nicholas Scratch?
The finale shows Rio, who is Death, taking Nicholas after Agatha has received extra time with him. Schaeffer described the situation as a special case: “Death doesn’t have real control over the circumstances of somebody’s demise, but this is a special case, because she gave him a stay of execution, literally.” The story establishes Rio as Death and shows her taking Nicholas; it does not establish her as his other parent.

Why does Agatha sacrifice herself, and what happens to her?
At the climax, Agatha gives her life to spare Billy from Death. Her story does not end there: she remains as a ghost and becomes Billy’s companion. Schaeffer said this was the intended destination for the character: “Yes, it was always going to end with Agatha being a ghost.” She described Agatha serving as Billy’s spirit guide as the planned landing point.
Back in Westview, Billy tries to banish Agatha. She resists because she is afraid to face Nicholas. Billy reassures her that Nicholas would forgive her, and Agatha tells Billy he reminds her of her son. The finale leaves the precise rules of Agatha’s ghostly existence unexplained, but makes clear that she chooses to stay with Billy rather than move on.

How does the series finale end for Billy?
Billy seals the Road and leaves a memorial for the coven members who died. He and Agatha then set out to find Tommy, his twin brother. That search is their next goal, not a mystery the finale resolves: it does not reveal where Tommy is or what happens after they begin looking.
The finale premiered on October 30, 2024. Marvel’s official series listing identifies Agatha All Along as a Disney+ series; availability can vary by territory and change over time.
