The moment is a sudden rupture in the pair’s relationship, not a resolution to it. The scene shows Kimiko’s immediate reaction; it does not establish what happens to either character afterward.
Why does Kimiko speak at that moment?
Fukuhara said the scene felt earned because the show had been building toward it. Earlier in season 4, Kimiko tries speech therapy. Fukuhara’s interpretation was that Kimiko needed emotional therapy to reach speech, not only physical speech work.

#1 Best Overall
- The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under Homelander's muscly thumb as he consolidates his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca's son, and his job as The Boys' leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they must find a way to work together and save the world before it's too late.
In the separation, Kimiko has no other action available to her: Frenchie is being taken, and she cries out for him. Fukuhara called the moment visceral and said, “there’s nothing else she can do but to scream out his name. And it’s gutteral.” The spelling “gutteral” is Fukuhara’s wording in the interview.
That reading comes from the actor’s account of the character and performance; it should not be mistaken for a confirmed statement of the writers’ intent. Fukuhara also recalled her reaction to reading the scene in the script: “It was really exciting, reading that in the script. Almost as exciting as when I read that I could heal in Season 1.”

Does the ending reveal what happens to them in season 5?
No. The interview does not confirm Kimiko and Frenchie’s eventual fate. Tomer Capone, who plays Frenchie, called the turn exciting and said he thought they would be all right as he looked ahead to season 5. That is the actor’s hope, not a plot confirmation or a spoiler about what happens next.
