What was Uecker’s playing career?
Uecker signed his first professional contract with the Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and reached the major leagues in 1962. He played six seasons as a backup catcher for the Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies. His career batting average was .200, with 14 home runs; he was part of the Cardinals’ 1964 World Series championship team, the AP reported.
